Simon Bray fills us in on an exciting wagering opportunity with three big races at the Toronto track this Saturday night...

A total of $3.5million will be given away to the winners of the three Breeders' Cup "Win and You're in" turf races at Woodbine on Saturday. Those three races, The Neartic (Race 8), The EP Taylor (Race 9) and The Pattison Canadian International (Race 10) also provide a Pick 3 wagering opportunity. While the return won't be anywhere near the prize money on offer, it still looks a worthwhile bet. There is plenty of intrigue with a combined 16 European horses entered over the three race sequence.

Leg 1: The six furlong Neartic gets it started. We'll throw out the two European runners as they are taking on what North American horses do best - sprint. Bridgetown (no.3) will get plenty of support. He is two for two sprinting on the turf this year and was a winner at a mile over this course as a two-year-old. Towzee (no.5) will be a big price and is a must use. Although he has not won a race in over two years (he was on the sidelines for 18 months) his last three races sprinting on the turf have been at five furlongs. He will appreciate the extra furlong in the Neartic and hopefully will get a clean trip, unlike his last start where he finished a close fourth with a troubled trip mid stretch. We will also use defending champ Field Commission (no.1), Grand Adventure (no.2), Sneaking Uponyou (no. 8).

Leg 2: Unlike the Neartic, this race is all about the Euros as they have won 20 of the last 27 runnings. This year, of the 10 entered fillies and mares, eight hail from across the pond. Last years' upset winner Lahaleeb (no.2) is entering the race with the same average form she came into the race with last year, but I just don't see her pulling off another upset. Shalanaya (no.1) has been disappointing since finishing second in the Prix Ganay (Gr1) against colts back in May, but should she regain that form she would be very dangerous. Luca Cumani, who has won this race twice before (1988,1998), sends Contredanse (no.7), an improving three-year-old filly. She picks up jockey Garrett Gomez and is must use. The shrewd Cumani is an astute horseman and only ships horses when they have a legitimate chance. We must also use the two French raiders Arkarlina (no.10)who beat Reggane (no.5) last time out.

Leg 3: This is where we will single Redwood (no.8). I played and keyed him in wagers in his last start at Woodbine when he won the Northern Dancer (Gr1) a month ago. He apparently has travelled back to Canada in good order and I expect him to sweep both Autumn Grade 1 races at one-and-a-half miles.
