Can Tranos or Springaway win under stormy summers skies at Sedgefield?
"Tranos was impressive when beating another of today’s rivals Schinken Otto here in the spring. He’s had excuses for two defeats since then and should have ideal conditions this afternoon."
Jumps expert David Cleary picks a pair of punts at Sedgefield today
There look to be thin pickings on a mundane Tuesday afternoon from a punting point of view, with some ordinary Flat fare at Leicester and low-grade jumping at Sedgefield.
Fortunately, the handicap chases at Sedgefield both look to offer something to get our teeth into. The two-mile event at 15:15 sees Saddlers Deal as the likely favourite. He might well have gone close but for falling at the last at Market Rasen last time but that was a muddling race and he's been put up by the handicapper for his pains. The one to be with is Tranos, who was impressive when beating another of today's rivals Schinken Otto here in the spring. He's had excuses for two defeats since then and should have ideal conditions this afternoon.
In the two-and-a-half mile event at 16:15, recent surprise Stratford scorer Springaway will take plenty of beating. That event has worked out quite well, given the grade, and this afternoon's opponents look eminently beatable. Springaway has been rather lightly raced in his time, so fragility is a bit of a concern, but there are reasons to think he will be able to hold his form here, which really ought to be good enough.
