Rory Delargy joins Gina Bryce on Timeform Radio for an afternoon's racing comprising action at Beverley and Folkestone on the level, and a jump meeting at Newton Abbot. He outlines his best bets

It's been a long time between drinks for Paul Midgley's Summer Dancer, but he can have punters cheering after the 7.5f handicap at Beverley at 15:00.

He has slipped to an attractive mark (5lb lower than when gaining his second C&D win last May), and has served notice on a couple of occasions at Kempton of late that he's about to return to his best.

On the first of those occasions he made good late headway into third despite being switched to the unfavoured inner rail in the latter stages of that 7f handicap, and again shaped better than the result over the same C&D last time, travelling notably well in midfield but picking up too late having been switched to the outer.

He is ideally suited by the demands of the intermediate trip on the Westwood, where his C&D record reads 115227, with the first of a pair of wins coming under today's pilot, Philip Makin.

He won't be inconvenienced by a middle draw as he needs to race with cover and we should expect to see him pulled out for a run down the wing, a ploy which is often utilised to effect at Beverly as runners on the far rail tend to drop back, causing congestion behind. There are plenty to consider in what looks an open race, notably the progressive Green Howard, but it's hard to see the selection not bustling up the leaders and he appeals as a win & place wager at current odds.

In the following contest, it doesn't take such detective work to spot that Half A Billion has a strong chance of finally breaking his duck in a modest maiden auction event.

Many will look to swerve Michael Dods' charge given he's had plenty of chances, but he's been nothing but consistent in making the frame on all six starts, and holds main form rival Just Like Heaven on their running behind Taro Tywod at Thirsk last time. His main danger according to the market is Linda Stubbs' newcomer Tarquin, and while that one is respected, a first-time-out record with juveniles of 3-72 over the years doesn't exactly inspire, and time and again experience trumps potential in such races.
