Hopefully the weather will be good enough for Leopardstown to host the Lexus Chase
Timeform lament the fact that the last three days' racing at Leopardstown were lost to the fog but look forward to the fog but look forward to the Lexus Chase on the closing day.
The Lexus Chase is now the centre of attention on the closing day of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival after the last three races on yesterday's card were lost to the fog. Some doubts surround the form choices; Notre Pere has to bounce back from a poor showing at Haydock, while Voy Por Ustedes and Schindlers Hunt have both been let down by their jumping in recent starts. A couple of young pretenders already successful at Grade 1 level are Cooldine and Joncol and the former was particularly strong in the market before yesterday's abandonment. However, with the memory of Kauto Star's effortless win in the King George still fresh in the memory, would even an impressive victory in what doesn't look a vintage renewal be enough to shake up the Gold Cup market?
On the same card is the traditional highlight of day four, the Grade 1 Leopardstown December Festival Hurdle, and features triple Grade 1 winner Solwhit who is out to regain the winning thread. He was undone by a farcical gallop at Newcastle last time, but if confirmed front runner Ebadiyan isn't turned out quickly, will there be sufficient pace on this occasion, or will speedier types like Sublimity again have things run to suit?
