A Grade 2 contest now run at Haydock Park, having been previously staged at Kempton until 2006, the Rendlesham Hurdle is seen as a solid trial for the World Hurdle at Cheltenham the following month and often produces a shake-up in the odds for the ante-post betting market.

Run over around three miles, the 'Rendlsham' has seen four of the last six favourites oblige, including the great Baracouda, odds-on at 1/3 when scaping home in 2002 before going on to win the first of his two World Hurdles.

In recent years only Sue Smith's Royal Emperor has surprised the betting public, popping up at odds of 12/1 in 2006 when the race was first staged at Haydock, but normal business was resumed in 2007 when Labelthou, the subject of some serious bets in the betting ring and betting offices, duly obliged at short odds of 5/4.

Jockeys Robert Thornton and Andrew Thornton have each won the race twice in the last 10 years and might be worth considering again when planning a bet on the contest.
