Can Kauto (left) beat Long Run (right) at Cheltenham?
"Long Run has eased to [3.55] to win a second Gold Cup with Kauto disputing second favouritism with Captain Chris - the pair available to back at [16.5]."
Paul Nicholls' legendary chaser put in his finest Betfair Chase showing on Saturday - but the market expects Long Run to take the major prizes this season.
Timeform provisionally have Kauto Star running to a figure of 178 in his masterful Betfair Chase victory on Saturday at Haydock. That is his best ever bare form rating in a Betfair Chase, a race he has now won four times.
However, the rating is still 10 lb short of the stunning 188 figure he achieved in winning the 2009 King George by a distance.
Long Run is judged to have provisionally run to a figure of 170, some 10 lb below his best effort, which came when winning his King George.
Saturday's shock win for Paul Nicholls' two-time Gold Cup winner has caused minor movements in Betfair's ante-post betting on the big one at Cheltenham.
Long Run has eased to [3.55] to win a second Gold Cup with Kauto disputing second favouritism with Captain Chris - the pair available to back at [16.5].
kauto and Long Run are next due to meet at Kempton on Boxing Day for the King George - the betting is closer there with Nicky Henderson's horse available to back at [2.46] and his great rival at [5.5].
