Dan Geraghty picks out three of the hottest golfers playing their trade in the US
Hunter Mahan (Odds to win [40.0], Top 5 Finish [12.0])
Mahan gave this column a nice priced winner last week and while there are plenty of doubts over which of the star names are actually in good enough form to win this week, there aren't any doubts about this young American's game right now and I see no reason to desert him, up until a few holes from home on Sunday Mahan played some of the best golf we've seen this year. From four attempts at the USPGA, he's finished in the top 20 twice. This week he simply couldn't be coming into the event in better form and for a variety of different reasons it's hard to make a better case for many above him in the betting.
KJ Choi ([90.0], [22.0])
Two South Korean USPGA Championship winners in a row would certainly give the Americans something to think about and it's a realistic possibility. KJ has been in excellent form this season, he very nearly won on the European tour in Malaysia, where another young Korean Seung Yol Noh just pipped him to the post. Before that he finished an excellent fourth in this years Masters. Choi has a good record in the USPGA, he has two top 10s and a further two top 25s from nine appearances. After a solid year he's in good shape to emulate YE Yang this week.
Steve Stricker ([27.0], [6.6])
Stricker's price has been contracting all week and it's easy to see why. There are big doubts surrounding the market leaders, so with Stricker's recent form and local connections he can almost be given a favourite's chance here. He really will never have a better chance to finally win a Major and if he does, few will be suprised.
Dangers: After struggling for much of last year, Jim Furyk has bounced back strongly this year and comes into this tournament with a 2010 win to his name. Furyk has seven top 20s in this event and his steady, straight, patient game could reap rewards this week. The fact that Jeff Overton (who has never won on tour) is just [60.0] to win a Major Championship speaks volumes, Jeff has been in fantastically consistent form this year and really deserves a win. One appearance and one top 10 from Dustin Johnson in this Championship and he's a potential superstar. Tiger Woods certainly isn't one of the PGA Tour's form players but he says his swing has improved during the past few days and like a fool I believe him. Finally, he's not a PGA Tour member but I have to give a mention to my favourite English golfer Danny Willett, who is playing in his first Major. Have a read of his thoughts here (https://sportfirst.co.uk/latest-golf-news/264-willett-to-play-first-major). Go get 'em Danny!
Bubba Watch: Of course Bubba's here! He's cemented his position at golf's top table this season and long may he reign. Bubba says the wind is going to be a Major factor, keep that in mind. The big man really does seem to spend the majority of his time these days horsing around with Rickie Fowler... check out their latest highjinks...
