Ian Poulter/Ross Fisher to beat Tiger Woods/Steve Stricker @ [2.9]
Pick of the morning fourballs could be this English pair to upset the strongest American group on paper. Granted, Woods and Stricker's 100% record in last year's Presidents Cup entitles them to favouritism, but the looming bad weather could level things up.

Stricker played poorly in rain at East Lake over the weekend, and wouldn't be ranked anywhere near third in the world if all golf were played in conditions like this. In direct contrast, the supposedly weakest link in this match would be ranked much higher. Ross Fisher is a master exponent of wet, windy conditions, and his partner Ian Poulter is the current world matchplay champion and top-scored for Europe last time.

Europe to win 2.5 - 1.5 @ [5.5]
Much as I fancy Europe this week, taking restrictive odds-on bets in the morning matches makes little appeal. Of course Donald/Harrington must be favourites against rookies Watson/Overton, but you won't get rich backing [1.77] chances in 18-hole fourballs. Likewise, McIlroy/McDowell look a formidable pairing, but hardly value at [1.9] against the capable pairing of Cink/Kuchar. I can't split the opening match between Westwood/Kaymer and Mickelson/Johnson.

Rather than trying to guess those specific results, I'd rather play the morning correct score market and plump for a narrow European win. So long as neither side runs away with the session, the chances are that a 2.5 - 1.5 scoreline will trade shorter than [5.5] at some stage in-running.

Irrespective of the morning matches, Europe are worth backing to maintain their superiority in the afternoon foursomes. Over the past six Ryder Cups, Europe are a massive nine points ahead in this discipline, which best reflects teamwork rather than individual brilliance.

The foursome records of superstars Woods and Mickelson are poor, yet they are bound to be expected to lead the American resistance against some impressive European pairings. Monty has already said every European will play tomorrow, and the four players due to miss the morning look set to form two pairings, leaving the captain potentially free to retain the two strongest morning partnerships.The Molinari brothers will surely form one, and practice sessions suggest Peter Hanson will team up with Miguel-Angel Jimenez.

I like the look of both. Obviously the Molinaris will gel, but Hanson and Jimenez will also be tough to beat. The key to foursomes is primarily hitting fairways and greens, avoiding bogey, favouring this experienced pair. In contrast, the American side contains numerous bombers, whose inaccuracy could create big trouble for their partners.
