Rookies will decide the Cup's fate, says Colin Montgomerie.
Colin Montgomerie believes the 2008 Ryder Cup will be won or lost by the rookies.
Four players are making their debuts for both Europe and the USA and Monty says the Cup's destiny will be decided by them.
The five-time Cup winner cited the 2002 event, played at The Belfry, when all four of Europe's debutants won their singles matches as evidence for his claim.
"We tend to forget there were four rookies in our 2002 Ryder Cup team of Sam Torrance," said Montgomerie.
"There was Paul McGinley, there was Niclas Fasth, there was Pierre Fulke and there was Phil Price, not one lost their singles matches - that's why we won the Ryder Cup in 2002.
"We have four rookies as well, as the Americans do, that's what's going to win or lose the Ryder Cup on either team."
Soren Hansen, Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose and Oliver Wilson all take their Cup bows for Europe this year while Steve Stricker, Anthony Kim, JB Holmes and Hunter Mahan line-up for the US
