Tom Lehman – A great bet to finish Top Senior

β€œTom Lehman has a very solid Open Championship record, is in fair form and he looks a great bet at anything over [4.0].”

It was a tremendous effort by Tom Watson a year ago but The Punter feels he's worth taking on this time around...

Last year we very nearly witnessed one of the greatest sporting achievements of all time when Tom Watson came within a whisker of winning this great Championship at the ripe old age of 59! Holding a one-shot lead on the 72nd tee he failed to par the final hole and eventually went down to Stewart Cink in a play-off.

What's even more incredible is that it was the second year running that one of the games elder statesmen had nearly pulled off the unlikeliest of wins. In 2008 Greg Norman had led going into the final round before a Sunday 77 saw him slip to third.

Following his heroics in 2008 Norman was well touted for the Top Senior in 2009, but the expectation was too much and he comfortably missed the cut. Lightening very rarely strikes twice and Tom Watson could well suffer a similar fate this time around. He was around an [11.0] shot last year in this market and this year here's around [4.0] and crying out to be opposed.

1989 champion, Marc Calcavecchia, played very well last year too, lying in third at halfway, before eventually finishing in a tie for 27th, but he's been woefully out of form so far in 2010 and also looks worth taking on.

Tom Pernice Jnr's Open record is hardly inspiring and the others look very much past their best, leaving recent Senior PGA Championship winner - Tom Lehman.

Tom comes here fresh from a very fair performance at the Barclays Scottish Open, where he finished a respectable 34th. He has a very solid Open Championship record, is in fair form and he looks a great bet at anything over [4.0].
