"Donald was second here last season and probably feels he has unfinished FedEx Cup business after Jim Furyk pipped him to the colossal pot... "
The world number one's stats suggest the he will be in contention, Jason Day likes the course and a young American bids for glory. Dan Geraghty introduces his picks...
Luke Donald [15.5] was left stunned at his 18th placed finish last week. His stats for the three days showed him tied fifth for driving accuracy, tied eighth for putting and he hit 76% of the greens. In such form, the world's number one certainly deserves his position in the market and it could well be argued that he should be shorter. Donald was second here last season and probably feels he has unfinished FedEx Cup business after Jim Furyk pipped him to the colossal pot last year.
Jason Day [25.0] continued his fine season with another solid week at the Barclays and his form here at TPC Boston is on a steady upward curve. His results for the last three years read 50th (2009), 19th (2010) and last year he was second. His game and results on tour have clearly moved up a level this year, so Day can be backed with confidence at a course he has shown a liking for.
Last week's young Americans performed with credit and the final place this week must go to one the three. Alas it's the powerful Gary Woodland [60.0] who survives, so Fowler [46.0] and Simpson [40.0] must take their place alongside the dangers. At the weather shortened Barclays, Woodland impressed once more. A flawless six under par third round saw him finish in 13th place and move into tenth position in the FedEx Cup race, which he has a chance to win at this early stage in his tour career. Woodland is having an unprecedented season on tour for one so inexperienced. He has all the talent in the world.
Dangers: Vijay Singh [40.0] is in excellent form and has won here twice before. However, I'm not sure we can trust his putting at such short odds. I can't warm to Adam Scott [21.0], with his massive putter and massive ego caddy but his form here has to be respected. Matt Kuchar [27.0] looks set for a good run at the playoffs, a top ten looks a good bet for last week's runner up, while last week's winner, Dustin Johnson [22.0], finally looks to have hit top form this season and can't be ruled out lightly.
Selections: Luke Donald [16.0], Jason Day [24.0], Gary Woodland [60.0]
