Rickie Fowler will be wearing his best at The Barclays - but will he be playing his best?
"Despite some very disappointing recent results, a good performance here will put Anthony Kim firmly in the Ryder Cup picture and give captain Corey Pavin a last minute selection headache."
Dan Geraghty picks his trio to follow as the PGA Tour begins the FedEx Cup play-off series
I was having a bit of a golf comedown after the last Major of the year but it's not lasted long as this week's field is full of superstars as the FedEx Cup play-offs begin.
On Monday the Ryder Cup teams will be announced so this is one final chance for players to catch the captain's eye. With that in mind this week I am selecting three Americans, two of whom are on the fringes of Corey Pavin's team.
Rickie Fowler is available at 13/2 with some bookies to make the Ryder Cup team and I think that represents definite value. Fowler is a superstar waiting to happen and his youthful exuberance could be vital for the US team in Wales. Fowler has come very close to a win on his debut full season on tour and has risen to 34th in the World Rankings without a win. The prizes for breaking that duck this week are numerous
Anthony Kim's hopes of making the team must surely rest on winning or coming very close at The Barclays. Kim has been injured for most of the season but has been back playing for the last few weeks. Despite some very disappointing recent results, a good performance here will put Kim firmly in the picture and give Pavin a last minute selection headache. Two top 20s from three attempts at this tournament means Kim can approach the week with confidence. I think either Fowler or Kim will make Pavin's team.
Kevin Streelman threatened to get away at the top of the leaderboard last week before a double bogey derailed him in style. Nevertheless, he made endless birdies and showed his game is in great shape. Streelman finished fourth in this tournament two years ago and with local ties he'll be getting plenty of support.
Dangers: Tiger Woods is at the top of the leaderboard for the first time in a long while, he's the first man on the course on Thursday and that early tee time may help him to post a good round. We can but hope. No-one would begrudge poor old Dustin Johnson a big win and few would put it past him bouncing back here. Michael Sim's form is looking ominously progressive and it will happen soon!
Bubba Watch: The big man is in eighth place (!) in the FedEx cup going into this week and is apparently the sixth best dressed man in the play-offs. But his form at The Barclays includes three missed cuts from four appearances. Not ideal.
Selections: Rickie Fowler [100.0], Anthony Kim [150.0], Kevin Streelman [250.0]
