Will the sun shine on our 100 Winner selections?
"Only so much should be read into Horsey's moderate winter returns, as most of his best form is in Europe."
A stellar field of big names has assembled in Florida for the Arnold Palmer Invitational but it is to the Open de Andalucia that Paul Krishnamurty is looking for this week's three-figure selections
Given the ongoing run of shock winners on the PGA Tour - every full-field, non-WGC event in the States this year has produced a triple-figure priced winner - longshot backers could be forgiven for making the Arnold Palmer Invitational their first port of call this week. The history of that event and previous rollcall of winners, however, suggests otherwise so I've opted for this wide-open European Tour event instead.
Everything points to a birdie-fest in Andalucia. That was the case when this course hosted the Turespana Masters last century, and again when Louis Oosthuisen put up one of the best performances of 2010 to win the latest renewal. With bouts of rain predicted to soften the greens, this should be a pure target golf test, for which a hot putter is essential.
Both of my picks are excellent putters, and proven winners from last year. Firstly John Parry enjoyed a cracking rookie season, winning the Vivendi Cup and contending virtually every week during September and October. He failed to continue that rich vein of form once the tour headed to Asia and the Middle East, but played well enough for 12th place on his penultimate start in Qatar. He could well become a regular contender again now the Race to Dubai is back in Europe, and a birdie-fest looks ideal, given that Parry ranks sixth amongst this lot for putts per round in 2011.
David Horsey fares even better in those putts per round stats, ranking only behind Robert Karlsson, who isn't in this Andalucia line-up. Again, only so much should be read into his moderate winter returns, as most of Horsey's best form is in Europe. He won last year's BMW International Open in Germany, having earlier finished runner-up in the Italian Open. Including his Challenge Tour form, Horsey has won three times in fewer than 100 professional starts, so is well worth chancing at big odds when conditions suit.
The recommended strategy is as follows. Place two units on each player, then place two lay orders on each, firstly at [10.0], then at [3.0]. As both lay orders are for ten units, just hitting one of them would guarantee a profit on the event.
Recommended Bets:
2u John Parry @ [100.0]
2u David Horsey @ [130.0]
Place order to lay both players 10u @ [10.0]
Place order to lay both players 10u @ [3.0]
2011 Stats: -19 units
