Sri Lanka fought well on Day Two
Sri Lanka fought back well on Day Two but they are still a long way behind and England will be hoping for another collapse of Cardiff proportions. Andrew Hughes is following all the Sunday action at the home of cricket
CLOSE Sri Lanka 372-3
And that is that. Play called off for the day, a real shame for spectators, but Sri Lanka still have a chance of forcing a result in this game. Thanks for being with me today. Log on to Betting@betfair tomorrow morning for coverage of the crucial fourth day's play
17:10 Sri Lanka 372-3
Still raining at Lord's and the crowd is thinning out as people conclude there may not be any more play today. Away from this series, there is cricket tomorrow in the Caribbean where West Indies take on India in the first one day international, with India strong favourites to win the five match series at [1.47]
16:40 Sri Lanka 372-3
Still raining. Interesting discussion on the radio about the future of Test cricket. Interest in the five day format may be strong in England, but it's dwindling around the world. Is it time we looked seriously at things like day night Test cricket, coloured clothes and names on the back of players shirts? I'd be interested to hear your views at betfairliveblogger@hotmail.co.uk
16:10 Sri Lanka 372-3
What was a light issue has become a rain problem, it's coming down pretty hard and I wonder whether we will see any more cricket today? Plenty going on elsewhere though. Nottinghamshire have posted a massive 215-6 in their Friends Life T20 game and Yorkshire are [12.0] to chase it down
15:44 Sri Lanka 372-3
This is very frustrating. The players came out for six balls, the drizzle resumes and off they go. Ridiculous. It's a bit gloomy, but then what are the floodlights for? And they wonder why Test cricket is in trouble.
15:05 Sri Lanka 372-3
Early tea will be taken at 15:10, good chance of play resuming after the interval
14:55 Sri Lanka 372-3
Still raining at the moment, more covers coming out but the drainage is pretty good here and hopefully it will blow over soon. Sri Lanka are perfectly positioned to get themselves into an impregnable position.
14:40 Sri Lanka 372-3
Light drizzle and the players are off the field, frustrating for spectators and they should really be playing in this.
WICKET T Dilshan b Finn 192
Out of nowhere, Finn gets one to nip back past Dilshan's bat and England have their third wicket. A standing ovation for the Sri Lankan captain and deservedly so. Pity he couldn't get the double hundred he deserved.
14:20 Sri Lanka 362-2
The tourists move on smoothly. Elsewhere there is plenty of county action today, with 7 fixtures in the Friends Life T20. Defending champions Hampshire have made a solid start and are second favourites in the tournament winners market at [8.4] They are taking on Kent in Tunbridge Wells today.
13:50 Sri Lanka 345-2
After a brief to and fro with the covers, play has resumed with a steady Tremlett over. Crunch time for the English bowlers. Another good session for Sri Lanka and they could get themselves into a position much like England's at Cardiff
LUNCH Sri Lanka 344-2
Undoubtedly Sri Lanka's morning, they trail by just 142 and England have once again struggled with the slope, their much-vaunted tallest ever attack has not really threatened. Join me at 1:40 for the resumption
12:35 Sri Lanka 312-2
Bowlers still struggling with their line. A hint of drizzle around but don't think it's going to affect the game too much. Jayawardene looks comfortable. Is this game heading inexorably for a draw? Get in touch at betfairliveblogger@hotmail.co.uk
WICKET K Sangakkara c Prior b Tremlett 26
Good delivery from Tremlett and the new ball does the trick, finding Kumar's edge and England have their breakthrough. Odds on a home win drop from [10.0] to [7.0]
11:59 Sri Lanka 276-1
Three overs to go till the new ball is available and England would love to get a breakthrough before then. But it doesn't look likely at the moment.
11:37 Sri Lanka 257-1
Fascinating battle between these batsmen and Swann. Three cricketers of the very highest quality, but at the moment, the Sri Lankans are looking untroubled. Dilshan's footwork is particularly impressive. The tourists are now slightly shorter than England in the win market at [6.6]
11:15 Sri Lanka 237-1
A touch of swing, a hint of bounce and the new ball due this morning. England have an opportunity here.
11:00 Sri Lanka 231-1
We're ready to start. Much talk about the composition of England's attack. Do you pick your best three pace bowlers regardless or do you try to get a bit of variety in there? Let me know what you think at betfairliveblogger@hotmail.co.uk
10:52 Sri Lanka 231-1
It's a fair bit cloudier this morning at Lord's and some talk of rain around, so England will be pinning their hopes on wickets in the morning session and if they do take one or two, their current win odds of [5.1] will shorten. On the other hand, this is a absolute road of a pitch and two of Sri Lanka's big guns are at the crease, with Jayawardene to follow. Time for a cup of Earl Grey before the action gets underway.
