Bangalore outbatted Chennai last time out

"There is a toss bias which helps make up our mind in the match odds market. Five of the last eight matches in Mumbai have been won by the side batting first so it would make sense if we took that on board."

Bangalore defeated Chennai recently but this rematch will probably come down to the toss of a coin, says Ed Hawkins

Bangalore
Chris Gayle smashed 75 off 50 balls to give Bangalore the win over Chennai on Sunday. But we are used to Gayle stealing the headlines so it should not be forgotten that the bowlers were the real stars. They restricted CSK to 128-8 with Zaheer Khan (2-19) and Daniel Vettori (2-15).

Chennai
MS Dhoni offered some resistance in the meeting on Sunday with an unbeaten 70. But it will concern the India skipper that his team were unable to prevent Gayle from teeing off. The best way might be to open with two spinners if Ravi Ashwin's figures of 1-18 are anything to go by.

Match Odds

Bangalore won by eight wickets on Sunday and Chennai by 21 runs in the previous meetings between the sides in IPL4. There is much at stake with the winner automatically qualifying for the final and Bangalore have to be the most confident of the two given the way they thumped CSK last time.

So it is slightly surprising to see the market unable to separate the pair. Bangalore and CSK are level-pegging at around the [1.95] mark. This is strange considering Bangalore were clear favourites to win on Sunday.

There is a toss bias which helps make up our mind. Five of the last eight matches in Mumbai have been won by the side batting first so it would make sense if we took that on board.

First-Innings Runs
The average first-innings score in IPL4 in Mumbai is 154 so it is perhaps not advisable to get too gung ho about backing 160 or more. Still, Chennai posted 183 when the side met early on.

Best bet: Back side batting first
