Adam Gilchrist looks like he's begun to dust off the cobwebs and is beginning to look like his old self
"But with Rajasthan having been shot out for 81 in their last game and looking to have little in the way of batting if Watson or Ross Taylor do not perform, a Kings XI win looks generously priced at [1.81]."
Two teams who have had a dip in form go head-to-head knowing this is a good chance to rebuild and get back to winning ways. But which of former Australian stars Shane Warne or Adam Gilchrist will come out on top?
Punjab
Kings XI were the whipping boys of the last IPL, but the wholesale changes that they have made for this tournament have appeared to be paying off in their three games to date. Moreover, Adam Gilchrist still has to find top form in this tournament; when he does, someone's bowling attack is going to pay.
Rajasthan
The Royals remain in a play off position despite never looking convincing in any of their games. The arrival of Shane Watson from Australia's tour of Bangladesh was supposed to strengthen them, but seems to have unbalanced the side. It is never a good idea to write off Shane Warne's side, though.
The points table is somewhat deceptive, because Rajasthan have played more games.
This is actually a game between two sides who have each won two games and each had one horrible defeat. The significant thing is that Punjab lost their opening game and then rode to victory in their next two matches on the back of stellar performances from all-rounder Paul Valthaty.
He followed his hundred against Chennai with 75 and four wickets against Deccan. This game could turn on how well he and Gilchrist fare against Warne and the Royals' mercurial fast bowler Shaun Tait. But with Rajasthan having been shot out for 81 in their last game and looking to have little in the way of batting if Watson or Ross Taylor do not perform, a Kings XI win looks generously priced at [1.81].
Punjab Opening Partnership odds
Opening partnership markets are always tricky, because unlike runscorer markets, you are backing two variables instead of one. However, Punjab look to have one of the solidest opening pairs in the tournament, with Gilchrist and Valthaty putting on 61 and 136 before being parted in the last two games. A partnership of at least 40 should not be beyond them in this game, making the price of [2.4] look attractive indeed, especially given Watson has yet to find his feet in this year's IPL.
Best Bet
Kings XI Punjab to win at [1.81]
