Michael Vaughan has not ruled out the Durham paceman playing some part in the series against South Africa.
Michael Vaughan has not ruled out Steve Harmison featuring in the final test of the series against South Africa despite his ommission from the England side for the third test.
Harmison had made the England test squad for the first time since March and England captain Vaughan acknowledged that he, along with Stuart Broad, will be dissappointed to miss the Edgbaston test.
Vaughan said: "With Ryan Sidebottom back from injury and James Anderson bowling very well, we have gone with the balance of four bowlers (which means Harmison misses out). It is a testament to the way he has bowled for Durham this season that Steve has got back into the 13.
"He will be dissappointed but he will be delighted to be back in the ranks. Who is say that Steve will not make it into the eleven for the Oval test next week?"
Vaughan also explained the recall of Durham batsmen Paul Collingwood to the England 11:
"I think our batting line-up looked a bit weak last week. Paul will bat at number six but also, on this kind of pitch his bowling could be useful. If it swings, which it looks like it might do, our bowlers should be a real force for the South African batsmen to deal with."
The third and penultimate test of the series begins at Edgbaston tommorrow. England are [4.4] to win with South Africa [2.96]. The draw is [2.28].
