"The dry, dusty surfaces will not suit them at all and it will be like learning a whole new ball game"

The Dutch are making up the numbers in this tournament and although they will not trouble the big boys, allrounder Ryan ten Doeschate might. Ed Hawkins previews their squad

The Dutch are a bit like a foreigner in Cairo's Liberation Square, they really shouldn't be there. No matter. The ICC insist on devaluing the competition by inviting such also-rans so we have to lump it.

They have won only two of their 14 World Cup matches and it is unlikely they will add to that number. Their big game will come against Ireland but the Irish should be too strong for them.

Against the big boys they are likely to find it very hard work indeed. The dry, dusty surfaces will not suit them at all and it will be like learning a whole new ball game. Surely that is not what World Cups should be about.

They are struggling already having been thoroughly outplayed by Canada in a warm-up match. They were bowled out for 151.

There will be a few names seasoned county cricket watchers will recognise. Alexei Kervezee plays for Worcestershire, Bas Zuiderent had a spell with Sussex while Ryan Ten Doeschate, a former betting.betfair columnist, is an Essex man.

The captain - Peter Borren
The archetypal leader of a minnow team, Borren is a limited batsman who bowls medium pace. Whether with bat or ball in hand he will be stubborn and fight to the last.

His record is, unsurprisingly, not much to write home about. He has played in three World Cup matches, scoring 26 runs and getting mauled for 89 runs off his 10 overs against Australia.

Big Fish - Ryan ten Doeschate
The Essex allrounder is such a talent that South Africa and England may watch him with jealous eyes in this World Cup. Both teams could do with a player of almighty hitting ability and deceptively quick medium-pace bowling.

Ten Doeschate is the top cricketer in the world outside the top nine sides and if there is any chance that you might risk some of your hard earned on a Dutchman in the tournament then there is no-one better.

With Kervezee and Zuiderent seen as top-bat rivals we should be confident of getting a decent price about him to outscore his teammates in an individual innings. In truth, he is in a different league to those two.

With an average of 68 and 1,234 runs to his name in just 27 ODIs runs (Zuiderent has 1080 in 53) the gulf is obvious.

Best bet: R Ten Doeschate top bat in individual matches at around [5.50]
