Raymond Van Barneveld has 20 180s so far in the tournament to Taylor's 17 and is available at a generous 2.2 to get more maximums than "The Power" in today's match.
"One area where Barney still has the edge for me is in the 180s department, and there lies a crucial betting opportunity today."
Raymond Van Barneveld meets Phil Taylor in the semi finals of the Grand Slam of Darts today and whereas Taylor should be the one going through, there is one area and subsequently one bet where it would be wise to side with Barney, says Jaymes Monte.
So it's a Phil Taylor v Raymond van Barneveld semi final rather than final as perhaps the crowd and the sponsors might have wished, but nevertheless we could be in for a Sunday afternoon treat from the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.
I have continued to write Barney off of late (both on these pages and to friends), but he seems to be insistent on proving me wrong. I'm still not certain that he has the mental strength to beat Taylor anymore, but I guess time will tell on that one. The Power has won all of their last eight meetings and most of them in a rather convincing fashion. He seems to sense when Barney is waning and like a predator on the hunt, strikes at exactly the right moment.
One area where Barney still has the edge for me is in the 180s department, and there lies a crucial betting opportunity today. With Taylor's tendency to switch to the 19s and his famed inability to throw an 'under stacker' the 180s match bet market will always be priced up a lot tighter than the match odds betting.
Barney has 20 tournament 180's and Taylor has 17, so with Barney available at around the [2.2] mark to throw the most maximums that should be a value place to let your money ride whilst taking in one of sport's greatest rivalries.
Selection: Back van Barneveld to get most 180's @ [2.2] (against Taylor)
