A thrilling fight in Washington D.C ended with Amir Khan losing his titles following a shock decision to award the fight to Lamont Peterson on points.

The British fighter had knocked down the American in the opening round but had to absorb sustained bombardment of blows from Peterson in the third and seventh rounds. However, the crucial moments came when Khan was controversially deducted two points in the final round for pushing.

Judges called the bout 113-112, 113-112, 111-114 in the American's favour but afterwards Khan held nothing back when he claimed that he had to battle two men in the ring. He called the decision "disgusting, said that he was the cleaner fighter and admonished Peterson for keeping his head low.

The Bolton fighter's dream is a fight against Floyd Mayweather but that's been dashed by a defeat which Khan also put down to Peterson's home advantage.

The Brit has vowed to formally question the referee's decision and his team say they would like a rematch, possible as soon as March, in Las Vegas.
