Ryan Giggs brought home one of the biggest gambles of all time when landing the BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday night.

The Manchester United legend was backed at massive three-figure prices on Betfair to win the annual award, with one punter getting 50p at the maximum odds of [1000.0] and other similar bets being struck at [300.0] and above on the exchange.

And the Betfair punter who had £25 on Giggs at [250.0] didn't get too shoddy a bet, either.

Giggs was an [1.73] chance on Betfair when the voting closed on the Beeb.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "Giggs was backed from [1000.0] to [1.73] to win this award - about the same odds he must have been to score when he started that mazy FA Cup goal run against Arsenal in 1999."
