Ben Caudell is backing the home favourite today but it's no patriotic bet, Murray is the more complete player and can frustrate Roddick into submission...
Andy Murray (GBR) v Andy Roddick (USA)
The two Andy's face off today in a semi-final battle that has all the makings of a classic. Murray the home favourite will feel the weight of expectation on his shoulders, but while the press have always been over zealous when it comes to British players at Wimbledon, Murray stands on the cusp of a place in the Wimbledon final. This would be one of the biggest sporting achievements by a British sportsman in over 50 years. Not since Bunny Austin in 1938 have Britain had a finalist at the All England Championships. If Murray succeeds today he will be the first ever Scot to accomplish this magnificent feat.
Murray has a 6-4 lead in head-to-head series against Roddick, with the most recent win at the start of 2009 in Doha 6-4, 6-2.
However, Roddick is in the form of his life, and is determined to win his first Wimbledon Championship having already reached the final on two previous occasions, losing to Roger Federer in the finals of the 2004 and 2005 Championships.
I believe that Murray will succeed today in reaching the final of a Grand Slam for the second time in his career, Roddick does not posses the attacking weapons required to beat an all-rounder such as Murray. The young Scot has the tactical nous to infuriate and disrupt Roddick's sometimes predictable game plan.
Roddick seems to struggle against the world's best defenders and I don't see this match being any different. Murray might start off little sluggishly but with the British crowd on his side and willing his every shot, we can look forward to a Federer v Murray final.
Selections:
Back Andy Murray @ [1.35] to win match
Back Murray 3-1 @ [3.6] (small bet)
Back over 39.5 Games @ [1.84]
Will Andy Murray win Wimbledon in 2010?
