Serena Williams powers through a forehand - expect more of the same today

"There is no way Serena is going to lose this match. The reigning champ knows this is probably one of the easiest draws she could have received at SW19. Kvitova has illustrated the little self-belief she has, and her prophecy will come true."

The world no.1 rarely needs a confidence boost, so when her opponent says 'I will probably lose' you know what to do...

Serena Williams (USA) v Petra Kvitova (CZE)
Not many expected to see 20-year-old Czech starlet Petra Kvitova reach a Grand Slam semi-final, and especially not at Wimbledon on a surface she is not accustomed to playing on.
Kvitova had never won a tour match on grass prior to this year's event. However, she has been sensational so far in the lead-up to what is the biggest match of her entire career. The left-hander amazingly survived five match points against Kia Kanepi in the quarter-final, finishing the match 8-6 in the third set.
Serena Williams with all her experience of centre court needs no extra confidence but will be encouraged by Kvitova's lack of confidence. When asked by a journalist if she feels she can win the tournament, Kvitova's response was "No, I don't think. I don't think so, no...Its two matches. But, yeah, I probably will lose to Serena".
This lack of self-assurance is understandable against a player who has won Wimbledon three times and is the reigning champion at the All England Club can only be detrimental to her game. However, she's probably right, considering what Serena has achieved in her tennis career this should be a formality for the American. The stats definitely back this.
Serena is 15-3 in Grand Slam semi-finals (5-1 at Wimbledon), has won all 36 matches at majors when sub [1.1] favourite. She has also won 13 of her last 15, and 41 of 48 overall against left-handers. Serena triumphed in their last game, a 6-2 6-1 win at this year's Australian Open on a surface which should suit the Czech's game more than the lawn courts of Wimbledon.
There is no way Serena is going to lose this match. The reigning champ knows this is probably one of the easiest draws she could have received at SW19. Kvitova has illustrated the little self-belief she has, and her prophecy will come true. My advice is to back Serena to win the by more than 6.5 games and in straight sets.
