Former Wimbledon great Pete Sampras says he cannot see anyone 'seriously threatening' Roger Federer at this year's Wimbledon and believes the world number one will comfortably defend his title.
Federer, who is currently available at just 1.3 to win his fifth Wimbledon title in a row and 2.94 to go through the Championships without dropping a set ('Fed To Lose a Set' - 'Yes' at 1.48), takes on Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero in the quarter-finals, although the game will not take place until Thursday at the earliest.
Sampras is not expecting Ferrero to present too many problems for the Swiss ace and neither do Betfair customers, with Federer trading in the match odds market at 1.03 and the Spaniard available to back at 30.
The retired United States tennis legend expects Federer to smash his all-time Grand Slam record and says there is no doubt in his mind that the world number one will secure 18 Major titles before hanging up his racket.
"Inevitably, he is breaking all my records," Sampras said. "I think he's on his way to breaking my 14 and winning as many as (golf legend, Jack) Nicklaus."
Should he win this week, it will be Federer's 11th Slam title and while some neutrals would love to see a worthy challenger for the 25-year-old, Sampras is enjoying watch him dominate.
"I'm a fan of his game. I am a fan of the type of player that he is," added Sampras. "I think he's going to win his fifth (Wimbledon title). I think he will break any foreseeable tennis record that's out there.
"I don't see anyone really threatening him seriously. I'm pulling for him."
