Mallorcan writes his name into the history books with dramatic five set victory
Rafael Nadal made history tonight with an epic defeat of Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in a classic men's final that set records for Betfair too.
Federer was beaten 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7 in one of the truly great Centre Court games.
In a see-sawing classic Nadal traded at [1.13] when a break up in the third set and [1.07] in the fourth when holding an advantage in the tie-break. He started the game as the [2.36] underdog with the Swiss world number one the [1.71] favourite. Those odds were nearly replicated at
the opening of the fifth set, with Federer [1.78], Nadal [2.26].
But it was to be the never-say-die Spaniard who emerged victorious.

The bald betting facts will show that a record £49,137,328 was traded on the match odds market alone - which is likely to be the largest amount traded on a tennis match in Betfair history.
Nadal was matched at a top price of [12.0] in the Wimbledon winner's market while the Spaniard to win 3-2 was backed at [25.0].
