Federer was unplayable this morning and didn't face a single break point all match
Roger Federer dispatched Jo Wilfried-Tsonga with consumate ease this morning to set up a repeat of the 2008 US Open final against Andy Murray...
Roger Federer produced a masterclass of tennis this morning that left the charismatic Jo Wilfried-Tsonga wishing he was somewhere else other than the Rod Laver Arena. The world number one wrapped up the match in straight sets without facing a single break point along the way to book his place in the final of the Australian Open against Andy Murray.
Whereas the end result was never really in doubt amongst Betfair punters - Federer only ever touched [1.26] to win the match and [2.46] to win in straight sets - no-one could have predicted the Fed Express would have been quite so dominant against an in-form player who had taken out some big names such as Tommy Haas and Novak Djokovic en route to the semis. At times the game resembled an exhibition match with Federer effortlessly manoeuvring his opponent round the court and coming up with winners off both wings at will.
All of which spells serious trouble for Andy Murray fans, who will be cursing their luck that he will have to face the world's greatest ever player once again in a Grand Slam final, having already lost to him in straight sets in the Us Open in 2008. That said, the Betfair market isn't completely ruling out the British Number One's chances and have him chalked up at [2.46] with Federer [1.67]. The Scot has been backed at a high of [8.8] in the market when he was faced with what looked like a tough draw but those who secured him at big prices may be thinking now is a good time to lay off their bets if Federer is to take his unplayable form into Sunday's final.
