The Brig lays it on the line at Newcastle for his 10th success in a row with Katchit.
15:30 Newcastle - LAY - Katchit (Forecast - 2.1)
Today's race is the 15:30 at Newcastle, its a grade 1 hurdle over 2 miles. Katchit is forecast favourite, trained by Alan King and ridden by Robert Thornton.
I am going for 10 successful lays in a row today, but if anyone thinks Godfrey Hoopington-Charles is going to duck the issue and go for a bigger priced 'safe' lay then you had better think again.
If you say 'Katchit' fast enough then it gives you a fair idea of the ability of this horse. Yes, this horse has ran 9 times over hurdles and has won 8 out of 9 races including two grade 1 races, but he lacks talent, scope, ability and class.
He is a 4yo taking on his elders for the first time in a race where juveniles have a shocking record. Since 1978, only one 4yo has managed to win this race, way back in 1985 when those ghastly perms and hideous shoulder pads were in fashion. Horses who have won at the Cheltenham festival also have a poor record in this race, but no doubt 90% of the racing journalists will be napping this swine. Katchit's form is nothing special and I will be shocked beyond all belief if he can win this. Even if I see this rogue winning this race live with my own eyes, then I would have to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
As far as I'm concerned either Al Eile or Clopf will win this race but Harchibald is respected and Mephisto is a very interesting big-priced outsider. I however won't be hesitating to lay the over-hyped hound 'Katchit'.
