Nutcase Marodima to lose the plot at Aintree
13:40 Aintree - LAY - Marodima (Forecast 2.5)
Today's race is the 13:40 at Aintree. It's a Listed class novice chase over 2 mile. Marodima is forecast favourite trained by the genius Paul Nicholls and ridden by Timmy Murphy. Marodima is one of the craziest horses in the NH world - an extremely headstrong individual with a mind all of his own.
He was a beaten favourite last time on his chase debut and first run for almost 8 months where his refusal to settle cost him the race at the business end. Today's race is likely to come too soon having had just 7 days to recover and he could bounce and run below form today in his toughest test yet.
The ground is forecast as good which is not ideal as all 10 of his runs have been with some cut in the ground. There have only been 3 previous runnings of this race but it has so far proved a graveyard for favourites with two odds-on shots being beaten and a 13/8 fav beaten. Marodima is the only 4yo in the race and does get the weight for age allowance but Paul Nicholls' record in this race is poor and his 2 previous runners were both beaten favourites.
Rowdy Yates and Leslingtaylor should go well in an open race but I will be laying the crazed nutcase Marodima.
Whilst I am on the subject of crazy horses, I wont hesitate to place lay "Grotesque" George Washington at 2.5 or shorter (if available) in the Breeders Cup Classic on Dirt at 10:35pm Saturday evening. George has to be THE most hyped horse in the last decade and surely stands no chance of mixing it with the worlds top Dirt horses at a track like Monmouth Park.
