The gelding, winner of the Becher Chase at Aintree over the National fences in November, has been laid out for the Merseyside marathon all season with Nicholls believing him to be a horse who will go well, despite a long absence from the racetrack.

"After the Becher Chase we kept him fresh and he's very, very well," he said.

"We've trained him for the race and the others have all had a busy season. He was impressive in the Becher Chase so we know he likes it around there.

"Obviously he has a lot of weight but he is a classy horse and he goes well fresh.

"He's fragile and he's always been hard to train so if we were going to have a serious go at the National, there was no point in running him again.

"He's had no problems at all since he won. He went home for a month or so and came back to us at the beginning of January and we've just picked him up."

Eurotrek currently trades at 20 for the Grand National just behind the shortest British-trained runner Simon at 19.

As has been the case all season, the market is dominated by Irish-trained horses with Dun Doire heading the betting at 11.5 ahead of Point Barrow at 12. Two previous winners are next on the list with Numbersixvalverde available at 16 and Hedgehunter at 17 for the April 14 contest.
