Looking for big-priced winner of the USPGA? Here are four selections, all trading at three-figures including one major winner...

It's a good job I get to have four picks for this column in the majors, because I had enough troubling reducing my shortlist here from an original ten players. Such is my mindset when trying to solve the USPGA puzzle, a tournament that has produced four huge-priced winners in the last 20 years - Jeff Sluman, John Daly, Rich Beem and Shaun Micheel.

First up, a man who is no stranger to majors glory, [110.0] chance Zach Johnson. Funnily enough, I'd identified Zach as a potential shock winner of a US major, though I wouldn't claim for a moment that I expected him to conquer a course like Augusta. I had backed him previously at big prices in both the US Open and USPGA though, for the same reasons I'm supporting him this week. In short, he has the perfect game to play tough golf courses, an accurate driver and excellent long-iron player.

More than most, Johnson should appreciate this week's conditions as nearly all his best form has come on courses with very fast greens. Putting was the key to his Augusta miracle, and also explains his superb record at Sugarloaf, a course with ultra-slick surfaces where he's won twice before.

Few have been more consistent from tee to green lately than [220.0] chance Ken Duke, a journeyman American who perfectly fits the bill of the shock, homegrown USPGA winner. In four of his last five PGA Tour starts, Duke has finished 18th or better, including a fourth place and second in his penultimate event. Another encouraging point is that Duke has good form on tough, championship golf courses. His 2007 debuts in the US Open and USPGA produced respectable finishes of 23rd and 18th, and he's made the top-15 two years running at Quail Hollow, home to the Wachovia Championship.

Another American with a similar consistent, journeyman profile is Heath Slocum, who really stands out at [240.0]. Its only a few weeks since Slocum was amongst the market leaders for a few PGA Tour events, which was probably an over-reaction to his ninth place at the US Open. Besides Torrey Pines, he has three other top-10s since May and hasn't missed a cut since the opening event of the year. Again, Slocum is usually seen to best effect when the emphasis is on long game accuracy, and he too has shown good form on courses with fast greens.

The one non-American to make the final cut is Aussie Rod Pampling, who is also recommended for a top-10 finish in the speciality bets portfolio. His odds of [340.0] are simply crazy considering his 2008 form. Pampling has nearly won twice this summer, finishing third last month at sometime major venue Congressional, and runner-up to Phil Mickelson at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Pampling is another who has shown a liking for fast greens before, both in his native Australia and more impressively in the Masters, where he can boast fifth and 16th placed finishes from three visits.
