Betfair's Top Dog sniffs around the truth behind the latest tabloid tales

Top Dog

Betfair's top dog sniffs around the truth behind the latest tabloid tales.

• Cruft's champion - Top stories that can dominate the news agenda
• Pedigree chum - Insights that tell you something you don't know
• Dog's dinner - Speculation, guesswork, or ideas that just don't come off.

Top Dog says:

Eight goals for Liverpool made it an easy night for the headline writers - and knocked another juicy row between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger off the back pages. Fergie's hammered Arsenal for having too many foreigners, Wenger says United spent £30million on Nani and Anderson this summer. Top Dog hates to mention the C word (cats), but that's what the pair of them fight like. Arsenal are 1.65 to win away to Slavia Prague tonight

Cruft's:

Daily Mirror - Berba will be off says his Dad - The Mirror's number one football writer Martin Lipton was in Germany with Chelsea and must have been skipping an awful lot of hotel channels to pick up that Dimitar Berbatov's Dad told Bulgarian TV that his boy still wants to quit Spurs. The problems in North London won't go away.

Pedigree Chum:

Daily Mail - I'm young and pure but never a wimp - Ian Ladyman gets a different preview to Manchester United's Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev by talking to Brazilian midfielder Anderson. The 19-year-old will play his third game in a row and has put some spite into the team. United are (1.18) to get the three points they need to wrap up their place in the next stage - although (1.73) to keep a clean sheet might be the better bet.

Daily Mail - That's rich, Sol - Rich Lists always make interesting reading and the Mail picks up the latest from Four Four Two magazine. Sol Campbell has shot into the top footballers' bracket with a personal fortune of £28million. But he's still on the poverty line compared with Roman Abramovich's £10.8billion and rising as the price of oil goes up! Top Dog's not jealous at all!

Daily Star - Cech new KO agony - The Star reacted quickest to the most significant event of Champions League night, the injury to Petr Cech. A scan today will decide if he needs a lengthy spell out. His absence last year cost Chelsea the title. It could also make (1.98) a Chelsea clean sheet against Everton on Sunday a good one to lay

Dog' s dinner:

Daily Mail - A brief history of the cheeky goal celebration - Steve Curry's piece following on Stephen Ireland's superman act is a bit of fun. But the pictures that go with it fairly put Top Dog off his breakfast!

Daily Mirror - Tigana in Fox hunt - Jean Tigana is flying in to hold talks with Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric, according to Alan Nixon. Mandaric just seems to love the guessing game while he talks to everybody and his dog about who will fill the Walkers Stadium hot seat. Come to think of it, Top Dog might give him a ring for a chat about the job too!

Today's other stories:

The Sun - It's Rafa Ben8tez - Grant gets Blank Cech - Wenger in Fergie rap - Owen Hargreaves column - Watford eight points clear - more Championship reports - Ireland escapes Bum rap

Daily Star - Turk that - In times of crisis call for Gerro - Chelsea av all the luck - You can be Euro champions says Fergie - Fergie really is the limit - I'll back Latics to survive says Frank Barlow

Daily Mirror - From grave to gr-eight - United security row - Schalke and Freeze - Championship match reports
