Border Reiver talks us through the best from north of the border
Last saturday Berwick earned a creditable 1-1 draw at home to Ayr United. Despite a long injury list, a new manager and players playing out of position it was a very encouraging performance. It was certainly well received by the fans. Spirits have been lifted on and off the park and everyone is looking forward to the rest of the season and regained their belief that we can stay up This week we have another home game, this time against Peterhead. The first game at Balmoor ended 4-3 to the Blue Toon. Hopefully we won't concede 4 goals this time and maybe we could get a much needed win before the 2 week international break.
Stranraer v East Fife.
I shall be backing Stranraer in this one. East Fife sit comfortably at the top of the table. They have played some really good football this year and must surely win the league, but they may come off second best at a resurgent Stranraer. The Fifers are not as effective away from home and Stranraer have made three good loan signings this week. Stranraer can be backed at around 3.35.
Dundee United v Kilmarnock.
Dundee United should be backed in this one. Last Saturday's disappointing result at Pittodrie should be overlooked. They are a much better team at Tannadice and have won 5 of their 6 home league games, only conceding 1 goal. Killie have won 2 away league games so far, Gretna and a last minute winner at Motherwell, so really shouldn't threaten the Arabs home record. United can be backed around 2.14.
Inverness Caley Thistle v Motherwell.
ICT represent good value in this clash. Caley have only lost only two home games this term and they were at the beginning of the season. They have improved dramatically since Craig Brewster was appointed manager. Although they have lost their last 2 games to Rangers and Aberdeen, they should be too strong for Motherwell. Well have won three times away from home but two of those were at Gretna and St Mirren. They are quite a difficult side to beat but they don't score many away from Fir Park. Caley can be backed around 2.56.
Gretna v Hibernian.
Things are not well at Easter Road. There are rumours of unrest among the players because of the terms of the new contracts on offer. Since their excellent win at Ibrox, they have gone off the boil and lost at Motherwell, at home to St Mirren and drawn with arch rivals Hearts. Although Gretna are poor, Hibs could be there for the taking this week and should be laid around 1.5.
This week's bets are: back Stranraer around 3.35, back Dundee United around 2.14, back Inverness Caley Thistle around 2.56 and lay Hibs around 1.5.
Good Luck
