Play-off Betting: Wycombe to be left Wandering what may have been..
Richard Walker previews the last of the semi-final play-offs as Stockport host Wycombe Wanderers in a match where plenty of goals may be on the cards...
First of all, if you're intending to watch this one, you need to get online and check out the quite magnificent collection of County songs the Stockport fans have.
I don't really know why the Cheadle End at Edgeley Park are so prolific with their verse-work but let me just advise you that you'll only be getting annoyed trying to work out what they're singing if you don't. My favourites are 'All Around My Hat' (don't often hear that one) and the ever-popular and likely-to-be-aired 'Arthur Brownlow' - a timeless terrace classic.
And, for this the 12th play-offs semi-final leg, the sixth second leg of course, form and favour have shown themselves to be so familiar by their absence that the impressive Hatters' songbook is the main reason I suggest they'll win this match. Only joking of course, well at least about the reasoning. I do genuinely believe that County will edge this one if there is to be a winner. Home backing could prove crucial...and there's few sets of fans better at it than Edgeley's Cheadle Enders.
The one thing the visitors Wanderers are, in contrast, is as dour as their manager's voice. The very antithesis of the general gaiety of song-singing, you must also find a post-match Paul Lambert interview to listen to - that'll sober you up if today's forecasted rain drives you into a public house for a little early afternoon refreshment.
The hosts are around [2.16] to back for this 6pm set-to, Wycombe [3.75] and the draw is [3.45]. I've done better when suggesting laying rather than backing and that's the way to approach these play-offs I reckon. Lay the visitors to a liability of [3.9] - I just can't see them winning on the day.
I can quite understand why Under 2.5 goals is the shorter of the two options in this list, at [1.76] to back. It was 1-1 down at Adams Park and a cagey affair too. But then again we just saw 0-0 turn to 5-1 in the Doncaster-Southend match-up. Odds of [2.28] await your investment if you care to back the Overs here.
I will, however, suggest the draw - a [2.22] chance - can be backed in the Half Time result options. While there may or may not be goals, I suspect it'll be even-steven for at least the first 45 minutes.
Wycombe are likely to be unchanged while Stockport might have to replace midfielder Dominic Blizzard, who's struggling with a calf strain. If they do it's likely to be with first leg goal hero Stephen Gleeson. Now here's a lad who just loves to shoot. The 19-year-old Irish lad's only burst onto the scene of late and it wouldn't be beyond the realms of fantasy for him to notch again. He's a [6.2] shot in the To Score list to follow up on his wonder-volley in Buckinghamshire a week ago.
Once again, though, I'm championing the cause of 26-goal Wanderers hitman Scott McGleish. Even if they don't prevail, I fancy he won't go 180 play-off minutes without scoring. He's around [6.0] to be First Goalscorer, or a more conservative [3.6] to strike at any time - he is, by the way, Wycombe's penalty-taker if that helps make up your mind at all.
The Half Time/Full Time Market has proved treacherous throughout the play-offs but I'm more inclined towards it for this match-up. Draw/Stockport makes most appeal to me - priced at [5.8] - with the [3.8] about Stockport/Stockport a sensible alternative.
With a great atmosphere and the whole season at stake, I reckon this'll be perhaps a fitting climax to the Sky Sports-broadcast play-offs semi-finals 12-game marathon - so, once involved with a stake or two, you'll want to watch this one.
And remember, I'm expecting you all to be word-for-word on 'Arthur Brownlow' by kick-off! All together now: "His pork-pie hat! His two buck teeth! His beer belly......."
