Oxford are a very short [1.25] at the weekend against Ebbsfleet and with a big FA Cup replay looming, this may be a match where they are worth opposing.

"I’ve said a few times this season that Ebbsfleet’s only decent remaining player is goalkeeper Lance Cronin but having a star goalie in your side means there is always hope (as Kettering proved against Leeds) but even my Romantic faith has been shocked to see the Fleet turn a sudden corner with outstanding wins against Mansfield and Stevenage in the space of four days."

Gary Boswell goes about trying to repair the damage caused by Kettering's heroics against Leeds in the FA Cup by turning his attention to the Blue Square Premier where league leaders Oxford are worth taking on at home. Here's why...

Bit of a disaster in the FA Cup last weekend and a serious return to league form study to do the repair work. Two games to concentrate on news wise - Chester v Luton & Oxford v Ebbsfleet.

The former gets notice because Betfair is the only place you are likely to be able to bet on the fixture following the continued circus at the Deva where fan power was exercised last Saturday to stop the game whilst the Blues were actually winning! It's worth keeping an eye on whether realistic odds get posted because strange stuff is also happening at Kenilworth Road. The club, whose financial shenanigans and points deductions set new Football League records, now have a manager with the right surname who came out with the extraordinary comment on signing Matthew Barnes-Homer from Kidderminster last week:

" I don't want to sound disrespectful, but I genuinely believe we're the only club in the Conference that could have secured his signature. "

The Gospel according to Richard Money, who paid a reputed £75,000 plus top ups and also brought in exciting Coventry City winger Ashley Cain on loan. Prudent business?

The Boz advice would be to throw the form book out of the window on this one and take odds on the thing you consider most unlikely to happen!

Oxford v Ebbsfleet does at least offer us less of a circus and more of an intriguing game of football which ten days ago would have been one of the easiest results to predict in Conference history. Oxford have won nine from ten at the Kassam this season and showed against Crawley midweek that any suggestion of a wobble is folly with a sterling late comeback to win at Crawley. Up against the meltdown men from near defunct Myfootballclub.com Ebbsfleet, the odds of [1.25] came into the category of skinny but correct. Ebbsfleet had lost five on the trot, have a -24 goal difference and looked as much a club doomed to relegation as it was possible to imagine.

I've said a few times this season that Ebbsfleet's only decent remaining player is goalkeeper Lance Cronin but having a star goalie in your side means there is always hope (as Kettering proved against Leeds) but even my Romantic faith has been shocked to see the Fleet turn a sudden corner with outstanding wins against Mansfield and Stevenage in the space of four days.
As well as Cronin, there is the matter of manager Liam Daish who can also cut the mustard and has seriously got beneath the skin of underperforming strikers Magno Vieira and Stefan Bailey. Suddenly the Fleet are the form side to be feared!

How has that affected the odds on Oxford? Not much as I write but I takes those kind of form swings very seriously in football - confidence being as infectious and influential as it is. Oxford have only been squeaking wins of late and have a hard ongoing tussle in the FA Cup with Barrow to focus on. The prize of a visit to the Stadium of Light awaits and suddenly you sense the possibility of a serious shock on Saturday. At [1.25] you can low risk lay Oxford or even chance a small stake on the monster [10.0] you can get on the Ebbsfleet win.

That's the main reason I'm in this game, the fun of calling the games against the book. The other reason is identifying the reliable banker and that comes in the form of following York City at the moment. Five league wins on the trot, a cup trip to Stoke to look forward to and a consistent string of performances in both defence and attack under Martin Foyle. Glory days could be on their way back to the KitKat and you can take them to beat Wrexham this weekend at around [1.8] with utmost confidence.

THE BOZ'S BEST BETS FOR THE WEEKEND:

BACK YORK (3 points) at [1.8] or longer to beat Wrexham
LAY OXFORD at [1.25] or shorter against Ebbsfleet

Surprised you say Lance Cronin is the only decent player left at Ebbsfleet for me Daruis Charles is one of the best defenders in the league.
I found that quote from Money funny because apparently Oxford had a chance of signing him but didnt think he was worth the money they were looking. Decent player but a great bit of business from Kiddie.
