Boswell's Betfair Blog - a bi-weekly round up of the best plays in the world of non-league football

Histon have been the revelation in the Blue Square Premier this season and Steve Fallon's Stutes resume league action at the Glassworld this weekend with a very winnable home tie against oh so ordinary Altrincham. I watched the Robins in the FA Cup last weekend making a right meal of getting past Kendal Town from forty odd places down the league pyramid. Histon by contrast were banging them in with Antonio Murray again on the score sheet. He looks the potential find for the Conference this year as the Stutes simply carry on from where they left off in South division last season - impressing everyone with how such a small club from such a small town can play to the football dynamic that is teamwork and continue rising.

At around 1.76, they should be a banker bet this weekend but I've said in this blog before how you have to back against Alty with caution. They are a pretty dire Conference standard football team and have been for a while but they continue to confound relegation through a combination of pulling out the odd unexpected result and the footballing Gods' tendency to smile on them. Darren Tinson at the back is an old warhorse and Val Owen and Colin Little can both cut it at this level. The spirit Graham Heathcote engenders means that they will always battle.

Their away form is my one reason for not making this a high point banker. They worked out how to beat Crawley for us at excellent odds earlier in the season and have drawn four away whilst the desperate league position is due to having only amassed four points from nine games at Moss Lane.

Add to that the fact that Histon have actually been more impressive on the road with five wins - the ones at York and Ebbsfleet really signalling their arrival as a Conference force to be reckoned with - might suggest abandoning the bet on Histon altogether. This dodgy looking home form for Histon however contains defeats at the Glassword by Aldershot and Torquay - the latter the 4-5 potboiler that still rates as Blue Square game of the season.

In the context of beating Alty, Histon's home form is ok and although the Robins do seem more of a force when going away to play defensively, I expect the attacking Stutes to carry sway here and make them a confident nap.

It is my policy now to put such short priced bets in Betfair multiples. What do you think of that strategy? It is born from this season's experience of having better luck with laying shortys than backing them individually so it is arguably Boswell superstition coming in to play. I'd be interested to hear what you think.

It's a Blue Square Premier treble for me this weekend then with top five teams Aldershot and Burton both having games they can be expected to win, the former on Friday night away at worrying Weymouth, the latter at the Pirelli on Saturday against a Kidderminster who are defending this season as if marking has gone out of fashion!

The blog played a blinder last weekend recommending the LAY of Forest Green as a short fav especially as Rovers went on to win the replay 4-1 at the New Lawn. I'm sticking with Ian Baird's triumphant Eastleigh again this week to bounce back at their own level and beat Garry Haylock's Hayes and Yeading who are worth a small single LAY in the Blue Square South.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

2pt MULTIPLE back on Histon,Burton & Aldershot at combined odds of approx 7.39.
1pt LAY ON Rushden in the LIVE ON SETANTA Thursday night at 2.6 or less
1pt LAY ON HAYES & YEADING at 3.0 or less against Eastleigh on Saturday
