Levein in the real world? Scotland's coach believes he has some 'flair players' to help his team beat Liechtenstein.
"Boyd has hit the back of the net seven times in eight home internationals"
Scotland say they endured some rough stuff in Lithuania on Friday, but surely they won't take a tumble at home to Liechtenstein on Tuesday evening? Tobias Gourlay picks the best bets.
After his first competitive game in charge ended in a goalless draw with Lithuania on Friday, Scotland coach Craig Levein blamed the referee for his team not being 'allowed to play'. Tuesday's match with Liechtenstein at Hampden Park should give his players a chance to show how much stuff they've really got to strut.
Levein has also complained about not getting a DVD of Friday's Liechtenstein v Spain game in good time, but how much would he learn from a 4-0 defeat of an experienced Liechtenstein side by a team who were mentioned as contenders (early or late?) for Team of the Century by FIFA recently. The current Scottish team won't be contesting that award, even if Levein returns his 'flair players' like James McFadden, Graham Dorrans and Kris Boyd to the starting XI for the easiest fixture of their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.
In Scotland's last qualifying campaign, under George Burley, Hampden Park didn't see many goals, only 1/4 matches going Over 2.5 Goals. Under Walter Smith and then Alex McLeish, the Tartan Army saw both sides score in four of their team's Euro 2008 home qualifiers and 5/6 games go Over 2.5 Goals. In that time, the only team to come to Glasgow with Liechtenstein's pedigree, the Faroe Islands, were beaten 6-0.
Liechtenstein have a longer-serving coach, Hans-Peter Zaugg, but their records are similar uneven. They scored only once on their travels in World Cup 2010 qualifying, but in three of his four Euro 2008 away qualifiers in charge. With a +2.5-goal Asian handicap, they won five of those nine games.
Scotland are [1.1] favourites, really should score at least a couple of goals and it might be best to concentrate on what happens at that end of the field. The aforementioned Boyd has hit the back of the net seven times in eight home internationals and, if he starts this match, anything much better than evens will be a very acceptable price for him to score for an eighth time at Hampden.
Best Bet: Back Kris Boyd To Score at [2.3] or above
