Adam Johnson rounds the keeper and taps in for England's second
"The away side, who have a smaller population than the number of spectators present at the match, took a shock lead but Kenny Miller equalised shortly afterwards to set up the nail-biting finale."
England were once again impressive as Wayne Rooney put his off-field problems behind him and Scotland came from behind to win in the most dramatic of circumstances...
England built on their fine win over Bulgaria on Friday by beating Switzerland 3-1 tonight. The Betfair market showed respect to the side who famously beat Spain at the World Cup and made England evens to win the match but a Wayne Rooney goal early on settled the nerves of England backers who secured a high of [2.2] on Fabio Capello's team in-running.
The Manchester United striker, who was a doubt for this match in light of the allegations over his private life, was backed at a high of [6.8] to open the scoring. Adam Johnson (who replaced the injured Theo Walcott during the first half) scored a second after being matched at [24.0] to score at anytime and Darren Bent added a third late on after the Swiss had pulled one back. England to be leading at half-time and winning at full-time was backed at [3.2]; Rooney and co are the fifth favourites at [10.0] to win Euro 2012.
Over In Scotland Craig Levein's side had drifted to 100.0 in-running before Stephen McManus headed a winner in the seventh minute of injury-time to secure a 2-1 win over Liechtenstein. The away side, who have a smaller population than the number of spectators present at the match, took a shock lead but Kenny Miller equalised shortly afterwards to set up the nail-biting finale. The draw traded at [1.01] for good money and the 2-1 scoreline at odds of [130.0].
Elsewhere, Portugal's miserable qualification campaign continued. Having suspended their own manager, Carlos Queiroz, for six months and lost their best player Cristiano Ronaldo to injury on the eve of their first match, they then drew 4-4 at home to Cyprus on Friday. Tonight they lost 1-0 away at Norway (who were matched at 4.1 to win the match), after a howler from their normally reliable Genoa-based keeper Eduardo. They're now in serious trouble of not qualifying for Euro 2012, just two matches in to the campaign.
Over in Italy, the hosts beat the Faroe Isles 5-0 after 5 or more goals was matched at [3.5] and already look an improved side to that which was unceremoniously dumped out of the World Cup at the group stages. The Republic of Ireland were backed at [42.0] to beat Andorra by a 3-1 scoreline.
