"Having been only brave enough to lay their opponents last week, I’m now looking to back the Dons."

Ian Lamont explains why he believes Wimbledon are set for more success as he weighs up the weekend's best League Two bets...

AFC Wimbledon [2.44] Aldershot Town [3.05] Draw [3.5]
Jason Prior, of Bognor Regis, has become the fourth striker to join AFC Wimbledon in recent weeks. One, Jason Euell, is already injured. Another, Byron Harrison, has been able to hold up the ball, something the Dons were lacking in attack and midfield, meaning that the ball kept going straight back to their defence. Prior is also another play who can hold the ball and wait for support, according to boss Terry Brown, who has seen his side pick up three straight wins, after seven straight defeats.

Having been only brave enough to lay AFC's opponents last week, I'm now looking to back the Dons. The layers make them slight favourites at [2.4], which seems remarkably generous against a side who have scored just one goal in eight league and FA Cup games. Guy Madjo obviously impressed Shots boss Dean Holdsworth so much when he scored a hat-trick against them for Port Vale in December that he signed him last week, on an 18-month deal from Stevenage. As a Shots fan I'd love to think he can reproduce his career stats of a goal in every three games, but I think in front of an expected packed house Brown will be toasting success over his former employers, who will miss Jermaine McGlashan after his exit to Cheltenham.

Recommended Bet: Back AFC Wimbledon at [2.44]

Barnet [2.4] Crewe [3.2] Draw [3.5]
Two in-form sides meet at Underhill. One having given themselves breathing space from the relegation zone with seven goals in three straight wins and only one conceded, the other thinking they can reach the play-offs, eight goals in three and three against. Four wins out of five show their upward intent. This could be a goalfest cracker. Barnet have it all to do in order to contain visitors who have the second highest number of away wins. Matt Tootle should make his 100th appearance for the Alex, for whom Nick Powell's prowess has been noted by many at higher levels. The 17-year-old wide boy was December's League Two player of the month. Barnet, who have someone Powell can aspire to in tricky Ricky Holmes - a young player striving to fulfil his potential. I don't think the Bees will enjoy being favourites. They are not used to it. They can be laid.

Recommended Bet: Lay Barnet at [2.4]

Accrington [2.42] Gillingham [3.15] Draw [3.35]
Captain Andy Proctor has left for Preston and boss John Coleman has signed up with Rochdale to try to keep them up. It is perhaps not the best time to be a Stanley fan, after a fantastic journey from the Northern League under Coleman in his 13 years. What happens next? It is possible whoever is in charge on Saturday can ask for what every new boss seems to get - an impressive first performance from everyone. The players and fans could be forgiven for feeling a little flat. Visitors Gillingham need to pick up, having lost their last three. They were 3-1 up against AFC Wimbledon last weekend and lost 4-3. Defence will have been the order in training this week. Both sides will be looking for an improvement.

Recommended Bet: Back the draw at [3.15]

Burton [3.25] Oxford [2.42] Draw [3.3] (Sunday)

The autumn purple patch for Paul Pescisolido's Burton seems to be well and truly over. One win in nine games has left them outside the play-off places. Their plight has been emphasised by a lack of goals - two in five games. Justin Richards (another with just under a goal in every three games, 11 this season) and Calvin Zola need to fire on all cylinders, especially with 21-year-old striker Billy Kee (12 goals) sidelined again. Oxford, however, are fierce opponents at the moment, Jon-Paul Pittman having fought his way into the starting line-up to score two in three games - three in four if counting the one off the bench against Crawley. The U's are unbeaten away in four, the last time when Pittman was still on loan at Crawley. Burton will do well to contain their visitors' attacking strengths, from Alfie Potter to James Constable.

Recommended Bet: Back Oxford at [2.42]
