Blue is the colour this Easter weekend but League One isn't cooling down, says Alan Dudman as he looks forward to a sizzling four days of football. Best Bet: Back Millwall to beat Yeovil 1-0 @ [7.80].
So rare was the the pigment of marine blue in the 15th century that artists all over the world chased the damn colour. Few found it, even fewer could afford it...
Fast forward 500 hundred years and the same chase is raging for the same colour - but it's the marine blue of Leicester City this time - and boy the artists of the higher reaches in League One are gunning for them.
After last Saturday's events, the title is very much up for grabs. Leicester are wobbling at just the wrong moment and trade at [1.68] for the crown. Meanwhile, Peterborough's last gasp winnner at Oldham has halved their price to around [2.68] for the championship and, having tipped Posh last week at [5.20], you have yourselves a nice trade already.
Meanwhile third place Millwall will still believe they could have a say in the title market. They trade at [42.00] to usurp both Leicester and Posh (which is unlikely), but they can be backed at [2.82] to get promoted and their game on Monday against Peterborough sets up a sizzling four days of League One football. Strap yourselves in and get ready, it's Easter!
Yeovil Town [3.40] v Millwall [2.30], the draw [3.45]
Kenny Jackett's Millwall have given themselves every chance to get promoted and with such a massive game against Posh on Monday - they really ought to win at Yeovil - or should I say they have got to.
It's not a gimme by any stretch of the imagination. Yeovil and their new boss Terry Skiverton have proved a good fit, and the remit of preserving their League One status is within sniffing distance.
This is arguably the Glovers' toughest test to date, but under Skiverton they are unbeaten at home, and barely concede a goal. They aren't too pretty, but then why would you be, scrapping for survival? The Huish Park club are at full strength and have just concluded loan extensions for Spurs pair Jonathon Obika and Andros Townsend, whilst the excellent Chris Weale has agreed to stay between the sticks until the end of the season too.
Millwall have been top notch away from the New Den in recent weeks, and with three wins on the spin on their travels, they are heading to Huish Park full of confidence.
Despite missing top man and the club's all-time leading scorer Neil Harris through injury, Millwall should be good enough to nick a goal and nick a result on Good Friday.
Recommendations: Back under 2.5 goals @ [1.75]
Back 0-1 correct score @ [7.8]
Southend United [2.70] v MK Dons [2.90], the draw [3.30]
Another belting game for us on Good Friday, and note the early kick-off time of 1pm.
If this game had taken place three months ago, then Southend United would have been the lay of all time. However, things have changed and Steve Tilson's men are rocking 'n' rolling.
Southend have racked up 33 points from their last 14 games, and have somehow engineered themselves a shot at promotion via the play-offs. They really have come from nowhere, and I mentioned two weeks ago one of the keys words in football -momentum - and the Shrimpers have got loads.
Midfielder Franck Moussa has been a revelation on the left flank, and he summed it up perfectly this week by saying Easter really is make or break for them (with Northampton on Monday).
It's a game they really can't afford to lose, as Scunthorpe have two games in hand. But then again, MK Dons can't afford to lose this either.
Robbie Di Matteo's side have been favourites of mine all season for the way they play, but they are another who have had the slight wobbles of late - winning just one of their last five games.
This really could define either team's end to the season. But with Southend in such flying form and so miserly at home - they could end MK Dons automatic promotion hopes on Friday.
Recommendations: Back Southend @ [2.70]
Back Southend to win 1-0 @ [10.00], 2-0 [16.5]
