Alan Dudman looks at some of this weeks big games in League One, including a mouthwatering contest on the South coast where MK Dons travel down to Southampton to take on one of the league's form sides.
Well I have just finished cutting my own hair - something I have been doing for a number
of years now - and currently resemble a silky midfielder from crack outfit Dinamo Bucharest in the 1980s. I have mastered the art of moulding and cultivating the footballing mullett, but sadly have still not mastered punting against Wycombe. Damn Wycombe.
Another last minute goal from the Chairboys last weekend ruined yet another correct score. I make that three now, and Wycombe are becoming my John and Edward (if they weren't already). I really ought to banish talk of the light and dark blue forever.
Southampton [2.50] versus MK Dons [3.15], the draw [3.35]
Cracking game this one. Southampton are the in-form side in the division, taking on
an MK Dons outfit who come into the match off the back of four clean sheets.
Alan Pardew's side have shifted from one struggling and pondering, to a free-scoring and very organised unit. They've banged in 10 goals from three games but conceded a few, however - goals are coming from all over the park.
Last weekend they made fairly light work of an Oldham side that are rather hard to break down, and in truth, could have scored four or five. I have highlighted the Saints a few times, as they attack with two wide men and concentrate on supplying a bang in-form Rickie Lambert. His progress, aswell as the team's impresses me.
Paul Ince has the Dons in great shape. Second best defenisvely on their travels, they head to the coast seeking a fourth consecutive win. They will be hard to break down, but I think Southampton have enough quality to do so. Maybe not the goalfest in recent games for Pardew's men, but they are certainly well capable of denting that Ince backline.
Recommendations:
Lay MK Dons @ [3.15]
Back Southampton to beat MK Dons 1-0 [10.00]
Back under 2.5 goals @ [1.85]
Brentford [1.93] versus Stockport County [5.00], the draw [3.55]
Not the obvious game to get involved in this weekend, but so far this season I haven't
dabbled with Stockport at all. It changes here, and when I saw their price this weekend, I
instantly thought of my nose....it's just too big.
Stockport were battered at Millwall last Saturday, a shocking display that lacked any commitment and quality. But they are a very young side, and have performed with great credit this season under new boss Gary Abblett. They've no money, but they have stacks of talented kids. With a young outift you are always likely to have the odd blip, I hope they can bounce back with a good display here.
Brentford are woefully inconsistent. They have a lot of pace throughout the side but lack a touch of quality up front. Defensively they are vulnerable too. A lay of the Bees could be tempting if they were shorter, but a couple of quid at a price on the Hatters could be interesting.
Recommendations:
Back Stockport to beat Brentford @ [5.00]
Brighton [2.32] v Oldham [3.40], the draw [3.50]
If Brentford are labelled inconsistent, then heaven knows what we label Brighton with.
Capable of winning, more than capable of losing. The sensible option is to take Oldham
to get back to their spoiling and miserly old self after last Saturday's 3-1 defeat to
Southampton.
The clean sheet masters could be back in business here.
Recommendations:
Back Brighton v Oldham 0-0 @ [12.00]
Back under 2.5 goals @ [1.90]
Weekend bets:
Back Brighton v Oldham 0-0 @ [12.00]
Back Southampton to beat MK Dons 1-0 [10.00]
Back Stockport to beat Brentford @ [5.00]
