After being burned when opposing goals in all four of their selections last week, the Total Goals Guys have decided that the best course of action is to do exactly the same this week. Good luck, guys!
It's the final weekend of the experiment and with a betting bank of £67.94 at present it's looking like a disappointment overall. After 34 weekends and 149 bets we are £32.04 down and it looks like we face turning in a loss for the season no matter how good the final weekend may be.
Last week saw a 30% drop after we wrongly opposed four goal backers in West Ham's visit to Old Trafford. This was compounded on Monday after backing three goals or more in Chelsea's trip to St James' Park. The yo-yo trend is to be expected considering we are staking 80% of our budget each week. This week we are taking a calculated risk in splitting our entire bank across 4 wagers in the total goals markets.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal all have nothing to play for this weekend so we focus our attention on Rangers, Celtic, Manchester United and Chelsea who are all in with a chance of landing their domestic titles. The strategy is simple; we are going to oppose four goal backers in each of these sides' respective ties this weekend. To remain in business these matches would have to amass at least 16 goals which is very unlikely and statistically four goals or more in all of these ties is around a [39.0] shot.
Rangers get things going at lunch time on Saturday. They host Dundee United at Ibrox three days after a hard fought 1-0 home win over Motherwell and a similar low scoring encounter is expected. Rangers have a UEFA Cup Final next week after all and in their many fixtures of late they haven't looked like giving anyone a right good going over. The visitors still have European qualification to aspire to will be aiming to hold out Rangers for as long as possible, like Motherwell the other night. Four goals or more can be opposed at around [2.5].
On Sunday, Celtic welcome Hibernian to Celtic Park and if things go well for rivals Rangers the previous day they will be looking to regain a four point advantage. Hibernian held Rangers to 0-0 draw at Easter Road last Sunday and like Dundee Utd they are still in with a realistic shout of making Europe next season so there is no question of Celtic getting it easy here. Like at Ibrox, four goals or more can be opposed at around [2.5] and when you consider not only the importance here but the fact the goal average is less than three per game four goal backers look brave!
Attention then turns to the Premiership title race. It's certainly in Manchester United's hands with their superior goal difference and for Sir Alex's men it's a case of beat Wigan and it's yours. It rarely pans out as simple as that, however, and as much as Utd made light work of West Ham last week, it could be a slightly different story at the JJB. With all the tension and excitement, not to mention Wigan's recent form, it's difficult to see the reds just turning up and dishing out a walloping. Their away games yield roughly 2.5 goals per game so again we are happy to oppose the four goal backer at a lay price of [2.6].
Meanwhile, Chelsea will have both eyes on the ball and one ear on the crowd at Stamford Bridge. It will destroy them if they fail to beat Bolton and Manchester United only manage a similar result at Wigan. It's difficult to see the blues failing to get the three points here and with a home goal per game average of 2.61 it might not be a whitewash. Once again four goals or more could be worth a lay at [2.72].
