Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard need to forget about Wednesday night's disaster at Wembley and fast so what better way than to throw themselves straight into a big game at St. James' Park this Saturday lunch time? We said at the outset of this challenge that Liverpool were prone to the odd 0-0 particularly on their travels and that has been the case with goalless draws at Pompey and in their last away outing at Blackburn. Seven goals in six away matches for the visitors and 11 in six for Newcastle at home this season suggests both sides are well capable of getting on the score sheet in what we expect to be quite an open affair. We are taking a calculated risk with 20% of the current balance (£14.30) on two goals or more here at a healthy [1.38].
There's an early kick off in the SPL on Saturday as Rangers look to temporarily draw level with Celtic at the top of the table with a win at Falkirk. It's a tricky away tie for the Gers - they travel to a place where they lost last season and where they have always found it hard going since the hosts moved in a couple of years ago. The Bairns are likely to be right in about Rangers from the off and it will be a stereotypically Scottish game of football at 100mph! Teams like Falkirk get so pumped up for such occasions so despite several low scoring matches here this season we're fairly confident in a 20% stake on two goals or more at [1.25].
An away win at the Falkirk stadium in the early kick-off will see Celtic needing just a point at home to Aberdeen to re-gain top spot but this is without doubt a game the hosts will be looking to win. Since the opening day goal drought with Kilmarnock the home side have scored at least three in each of their four league games since and they still haven't conceded a goal. The Dons have found the net seven times in six away fixtures this term and are capable of halting Artur Boruc's home league shut-out run. The stats point heavily to the possibility of "overs" and we are going for a 10% stake on three goals or more at [1.6]
Arsenal suffered a bit of new stadium syndrome last season when they upped sticks to Ashburton Grove in 2005 but it's been a fortress this term. The Emirates has also been awash with goals this season and it's a trend that looks to continue on Saturday when Wigan pay a visit. Three goals or more in a home game for Arsenal has a strike rate of 71% this season but the calibre of opponent is a threat to this at the weekend. The hosts have scored at least two goals in all but one of their seven home games this season so backing two goals or more with 20% of the balance at [1.23] is the safe bet.
Bayern Munich will be looking to get back to winning ways in Germany after two goalless draws and a defeat from their last three Bundesliga matches. They still remain in top spot however and will be looking to keep their rivals at bay with a confidence-boosting win over 11th placed Wolfsburg. The recent stumble ensures the Bavarian faithful will be after a convincing win and when you consider Wolfsburg's away record of conceding 13 goals in their six away matches this season Bayern could well deliver here, whilst adding to their seasons tally of 15 goals in six home matches. Interestingly the visitors have also managed to find the net 13 times on the road this season and the stats for this one are seriously pointing at wager on "overs". We'll take a medium sized risk of 10% of the bank on three goals or more at [1.55].
Barcelona face a home tie with Recreativo Huelva on Saturday night as they look to pile the pressure on table topping rivals Real Madrid who play in the later match at Murcia. Barca at home has been a two goal "banker" for us so far and we are hoping that continues on Saturday night. Odds of [1.23] are on offer and as usual represents excellent value when you consider that the Catalonians have found the net at least twice in all seven home matches this season, whilst conceding in four of these. It's difficult to see Huelva finding the net here having failed to do so in half of their away ties this season.
