Old Firm match let us down

The "Total Goals Guys" talk us through their weekend's betting...

We safeguarded 40% of our bank this weekend and managed to turn in a 31% profit with the remainder despite a loss in the Old Firm match. Our seventh profitable week on the trot has taken our betting bank up 19% to £129.83.

Kevin Thomson's first goal in a light blue jersey was enough to give Rangers victory over Celtic who drifted from [3.05] to [5.3] to retain their title after going down to their 4th consecutive Old Firm defeat. Rangers, who were [1.48] before kick-off, are now [1.23] to clinch their 52nd Scottish Premier League title. The solitary goal came just before the half time interval but with no more goals it wasn't enough to land our back of two goals or more at [1.38]. The match wasn't pretty and in hindsight, with so much at stake, there maybe wasn't ever going to be too many goals. One goal or more was available at [1.08].

Things took a turn for the better at the Reebok however where we were also on two goals or more. We were matched at [1.4] and Arsenal's poor recent form continued in an opening 45 minutes that seen them lose two goals whilst being reduced to 10 men. Bolton have a good record of scoring against Arsenal in this fixture but a serious lack of firepower in the attacking third swayed us in the direction of two or more as opposed to three. Arsenal responded brilliantly however, digging out the most unlikely of victories in a stunning second half come-back. Given the circumstances, the 3-2 win will surely be up there as one of the stories of this season and may yet prove pivotal in the title race.

Manchester United put on a real show for the televised visit of Aston Villa on Saturday evening. Four goals or more was available at [3.37] for this one but we opted for one of the less bold options in backing three goals at [1.87]. The job was done on 53 minutes when Rooney followed up an audacious Ronaldo back heel (17') and a Tevez back-post diving header (33'). It was the England mans first goal at Old Trafford in the league since October and he sealed the 4-0 rout with a second after 70 minutes.

At this stage we were down for the weekend but with a back of 3 goals or more ([1.99]) in Barcelona's 3-2 defeat at Real Betis we managed to make it another profitable weekend. The visitors were two in front inside the first twenty minutes through strikes form Bojan Krkic and Samuel Eto'o, a lead they held onto until the break. Like Bolton however, they quickly saw their lead disappear in a disastrous second half. With Villarreal now sitting 1 point above them in 2nd place, Barca can no longer consider themselves to be the number one challengers to Real Madrid in the title race.

We are ticking along nicely and with 6 weeks to go until the end of the Premier League season it's looking good for finishing the season in the green. There is a treacherous month or so in font of us in the match odds markets but hopefully not so predictably unpredictable in the total goals market.
