The Total Goals Guys had a decent week with goals at Craven Cottage and at the Reebok Stadium but Villa's resilient defence stopped it being a perfect weekend...
Its still a big ask, but if our recent form continues we have an outside chance of turning in a profit this season.
We went with a lay of 4 goals or more in Celtic's 2-0 win at Hibs on Saturday, priced at [3.18]. Our maximum exposure of £5.50 allowed us to pick up £2.51 in profit after it proved to be just as tense and tight an encounter as we predicted. Goalless at half time, neither defence was breached until the 63rd minute when the visitors took the lead through the unlikely figure of Lee Naylor. Giorgios Samaras scored his 2nd header in 3 days to wrap things up for the hoops 16 minutes from time.
We were delighted to have called it spot on at Craven Cottage with a back of 3 goals or more at [1.82]. This returned twice as much profit than would have been gained from backing United in the match odds. On Friday we hinted that we were tempted to go for 4 or more in this one but we were conscious of the fact a Champions League 2nd leg with Lyon mounts for the visitors and that such a high tally may require an unlikely goal from the hosts. The visitors took an early lead through Hargreaves (15) and went in 2-0 up at half time after Ji-Sung Park (44) netted a second. Another United victory was sealed when Simon Davies turned an O'Shea cross into his own net with 18 minutes remaining.
The wheels came off for us a bit at the Emirates on Saturday. We felt Aston Villa could cause Arsenal problems, the stats certainly suggested so and the hosts went behind through a Senderos own goal after 27 minutes. It was a game Arsenal needed to win so at this point being on the back side of 3 goals or more at [2.0] looked like a good position to be in. It wasn't to be however and The Gunners could only rescue a point through Nicklas Bendtner whose stoppage time equaliser could prove crucial to Arsenal's title hopes.
Backing 3 goals or more in Liverpool's visit to Bolton on Sunday is our best result of the season so far in terms of price. The wager was matched at [2.33] and before kick-off there was much reason to suggest it was a hard call.
Seasonal averages for Bolton home ties and Liverpool away ties suggested even 2 would be a close thing but with both sides hunger for points and the sheer fact Liverpool were probably due a win there, led us to go for the big odds. There was a little fortune involved in breaking the deadlock however with the usually reliable Jussi Jaaskalainen turning a Gerard drive that was heading wide into his own net. It set the visitors on their way to a comfortable win with Ryan Babel following up on the hour mark before Aurelio sealed it with quarter of an hour remaining. We told you that Bolton always score at home to Liverpool and they kept that record going through a Cohen consolation 11 minutes from time.
Cutting back to four selections a week and mainly going for 3 goals or more is paying dividends. The profit margins have been tremendous of late and one more goal at The Emirates on Saturday would have seen a 69% rise as opposed to the actual 32% increase. We cannot complain however as our balance is back up to a reasonably respectable £36.34.
