Total Goals Guys

Hoping for plenty of goals at the Bernabeu and few in Munich

The "Total Goals Guys" talks us through their weekend selections where midweek European conmmitments are an important consideration

It's another week with limited options as wee seek a return to the black. Two massive title deciders North and South of the border take us down to seven matches and that soon becomes six as we quickly disregard Arsenal's visit to Pride Park - both sides have little to play for and its hard enough to call the goal line when both teams are going full tilt.

Chelsea simply must beat Manchester United on Saturday if they are to retain any hopes of even taking the current champions to the wire in this season's title fight. A draw suits the visitor's right down to the ground here so expect Chelsea to force the issue in this one. If it remains goalless after 45 minutes, in-play backers will be in hot pursuit of one and two goals or more and the latter is our pick before a ball is kicked at [1.48]. Sir Alex may have one eye on Tuesday's Champions League tie with Barcelona but is too long in the tooth to take the Premiership, his number one priority, for granted.

Early match odds markets see Birmingham priced at [2.9] for the visit of Liverpool who are only slightly shorter in the same market at [2.82]. It's almost certainly the biggest price of the season for Liverpool away to anyone outside the big four but the market is surely reflecting Liverpool's Champions League Semi-Final 2nd leg with Chelsea five days later. In terms of goals, Birmingham need some points badly and if they come out with a win, the integrity of the league is sure to be in question as Rafa Benitez will almost certainly field a 2nd string outfit with next Wednesday in mind. There is still enough quality however to cause a Birmingham side lacking confidence some problems and two goals or more looks worth backing at [1.43].

We were on a lay of four goals or more in Bayern Munich's last home fixture with Bochum in which we were undone with a late goal but we are not put off opposing four goal backers this time around as Stuttgart are the visitors with the lay price sitting at [3.32]. Statistically, where this season is concerned, there shouldn't be more than three goals in this one and with the match sandwiched between both legs of Bayern's UEFA Cup Semi-Final tie with Zenit St. Petersburg don't expect a rampant display from the home side. They are 10 points clear at the top of The Bundesliga and with only five games remaining, they will probably allow themselves the luxury of fielding the odd fringe player.

Three goals or more is the pick in Athletic Bilboa's visit to Santiago Bernabeau on Sunday evening and there are a couple of reasons for this. One is the return of top marksman Ruud Van Nistelrooy and his return could be on a historic night as if both Villarreal and Barcelona fail to win their respective matches, a home win could seal championship number 31 and signal the start of a wild night of partying. This ground has averaged 3.5 goals per game this season and with 8th placed Bilbao netting seven times in their last four matches, they are more than capable of making a contribution here. You can back three goals or more at [1.74] in the total goals market.
