The "Total Goals Guys" think about what might have been as Blackburn and Liverpool put a damp squib on an otherwide good weekend
Balance up 2% to £73.67, down £26.33 since the start of the season.
It was a feast of football at The Emirates on Saturday. All too often such clashes of giants fail to live up to their billing but two excellent sides both gave a very good account of themselves in the 2-2 draw. We went for 2 goals in this one and as HT approached it was looking dodgy until Ronney bundled one in at the near post off Gallas. Surely Arsenal would bite back in the 2nd? And they did through Cesc "cool as you like" Fabregas who, with Van der Sar stranded, took his time under pressure to pick out the bottom corner from close range shortly after the re-start.
We fancied both sides to find the net at Rugby Park on Saturday and despite this being the case it was the in form Scott McDonald who took care of our wager single handedly. We were on 2 goals at Rugby Park and the pint sized Australian netted twice in 3 minutes on 34' and 36' to put Celtic on their way to a 2-1 victory.
Kris Boyd scored the fastest goal in Scotland (if not Britain) at Ibrox on Saturday to set Rangers on their way to a 2-0 victory over Inverness. The strikers' first time-shot on 34 seconds gave us 2 goals backers a 89 minute comfort zone for a second which in actual fact took another hour in coming once Darcheville set up Cuellar for the second on 62'.
Our back of 2 goals at the JJB Stadium was done and dusted within the first 20 minutes of play on Saturday. Frank Lampard opened the scoring on 11 minutes after getting on the end of a cross from Shaun Wright-Phillips. Juliano Belletti doubled the visitor's lead on 18' after being allowed to travel all of 60 yards without so much of a shoulder challenge before unleashing a powerful curling effort.
Blackburn's match with Liverpool had everything on Saturday night, everything that is apart from goals. As we anticipated it was a very entertaining game of football and despite the scoreline there were a number of chances for both sides with Mark Hughes admitting to BBC Sport "There were clear cut chances that on another day would have went in".
Despite the set back we still managed to turn in a profit of just over 2% for the weekend. Mark Hughes' philosophical view is the same as ours on this one, we expect the odd blip and are in a position to take it on the chin and move on.
