Saturday was not a day of fond memories for Ben Davies...

Read on to find out why Notts County midfielder Ben Davies spent Saturday afternoon in a hotel room rather than on the pitch and his thoughts on Emmanuel Adebayor's latest comments regarding his infamous goal celebration against Arsenal.

"I hate watching games that I should be playing in. It drives me crazy. I get really annoyed with myself if I have to miss games through suspension. Injuries and illnesses are out of your control, but I still cannot stand to miss games and watch on from the stands whilst the lads are giving it their all."

Well, it has not been my best ever week this week. In fact, it has been pretty horrific.

This weekend saw us make the trip to Bury for our League Two match. As all footballers know, from time to time you get knocks and just have to battle through them. This has been the case for me after I picked up a severely bruised hip bone in the Shrewsbury Town game. It has been agony until recently, but it would not keep me out of the action. This finally cleared up last week and I was all set for the big clash against Bury.

We all ate in the hotel together on the Friday night, I had phoned the wife to say goodnight and had drifted off to sleep. This lasted until about twelve o clock when I suddenly woke up in agony with my stomach the size of a pregnant woman's and then was violently sick for the next forty eight hours.

I missed the game and was left in the hotel until I was picked up after the game. I wanted to go and watch the game but was unable to even get out of bed and walk. I was that ill and the physio did not want me to have contact with anyone else in case it was contagious. It was the most frustrating day of my life as I was stuck in a hotel room feeling horrific as the lads were out playing. I could not even get the results up on the television, so I had to get the updated scores on my phone. The only thing that kept me sane was the fact that I had company. I had a knock on my door in the morning with one of the lads standing there saying that he had been told he was to stay in my room too because he had got it as well. At least I had got a bit of company.

The physio decided he did not want us to travel back on the coach. We then got picked up from the hotel at six o clock on Saturday night by our former Club Internet manager, Tom Loakes, who had been to watch the game and had been asked to bring us home. He and his friend had obviously been freezing at the game so when my team mate and I were put in the back of the car the heating was on full blast and resembled a sauna. Crushed in the back of a boiling hot car with a six foot man who was sweating furiously and a driver who was desperate to get back with his foot down (throwing me around the back of his car whilst going through the Lancashire roads) is not good for a man with a stomach bug.

I lasted two minutes. I was then on my knees in the hard shoulder being sick when a policeman tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I was ok. As if things could not get any worse! I was then put in the front of the car with my head out of the window for the remaining two hours of the journey.

I hate watching games that I should be playing in. It drives me crazy. I get really annoyed with myself if I have to miss games through suspension. Injuries and illnesses are out of your control, but I still cannot stand to miss games and watch on from the stands whilst the lads are giving it their all.

One thing that was on the television Saturday afternoon was the Wales versus Scotland game. As my father is Welsh and my mother half Welsh I was delighted with the result and the display the young Dragons put on. There have been mixed results of late but this was a fantastic performance. Having represented Wales at other levels I would love a call up to the senior squad but at this moment in time it still has not arrived. There are some quality players in the squad and hopefully sooner rather than later we can qualify for a major tournament.

I was interested to hear that Emmanuel Adebayor has come out and said that he does not regret celebrating in front of the Arsenal fans like he did when he scored against them a couple of months ago because fans had insulted him and his family. I must say I agree with him.

Like most football fans, those in question probably think they can shout and abuse players and sing songs about their families and wives and get away with it. That is up to them, but for them to then go mad and act like babies when a man slides on his knees in front of them is hypocritical and at the very least, a case of double standards. I have been there myself, where I have been verbally abused, spat at and had things thrown at me. Even more so as the grounds we play at are more compact than they are in the Premier League and the fans are on top of you. I'm sure if a man stood shouting and swearing in front these fans as they sat behind their desk or work place, they would react to it as well. Footballers are just like every other human being after all.

Adebayor brings me on to this weekend's bet which is in the Liverpool v Man City game. I'm predicting the score will be 1-0 to Liverpool at half time which is a [3.75] shot and I'm also going for the outright win at [1.98].
