Ben nominates watching TV as the number one essential hobby for a footballer.
Notts County's ever-present midfielder Ben Davies talks about the benefits of moving to the Presidential Suite at the hotel he's staying, looking forward to an Entourage and the best and worst of the Notts County card players.
"There is a lot of travelling involved in the Coca Cola League Two, with the clubs spread out all over the country. So yes, the box set club is in full force on the road to. There is also, like at every other club I have been at, a card school. "
Hello to you all and welcome my Betfair weekly column. I am writing to you this week a lot happier than I was the last time I wrote this column. This is due to our back-to-back wins against Port Vale and Lincoln City. It was a long week for us last week, with the departure of Sol Campbell and with the media circus around the club. So, it was nice to make the tabloids for all the right reasons this week, most notably for picking up six points!
As I mentioned last week, my wife and I are currently living in a hotel whilst we are waiting to move into our new house. It has now been nearly three months for us in here and we are on first name terms with every single member of staff! I feel like Alan Partridge! We have been there that long that we have recently been moved in to the presidential suite in the hotel, which delighted my wife. This is mainly due to the fact that we have now got two televisions in separate rooms so she can watch what we wants.
As everybody knows, a large part of a footballer's life is spent getting their feet up and resting which leads to us watching a lot of television. In the hotel I watch a lot of football and other sports whilst Mrs Davies prefers the soaps, such as Coronation Street, so we now both get to watch what we want. As it gets closer to the game days we are told to rest and not to be seen walking round town or going out for meals. Thursdays and Fridays will consist of finishing training and going back to the hotel for plenty of rest. During which time I get through loads of films and plenty of sitcom box sets.
Our big Danish goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, is the king of the box set. He has watched every single box set there is available. He and our midfielder Jonny Jackson will always be on their laptops with their earphones plugged in chuckling away to the "Inbetweeners" or "Skins". Since being in the hotel, they have got me involved in the box set club. They have got me on the "Inbetweeners" and I find it hilarious. I am currently waiting for big Kasper to finish his Entourage collection as he rates that as his personal favourite of all time. Now this really does pass a few hours when you're confined to a hotel room.
There is a lot of travelling involved in the Coca Cola League Two, with the clubs spread out all over the country. So yes, the box set club is in full force on the road to. There is also, like at every other club I have been at, a card school. The Gaffer has strict rules on when the lads are allowed to play cards, so whenever they can, they strike up a game. There are some very handy players, but our card shark has to be our centre forward Delroy Facey. I am not one for the cards, but whenever I cast my eye on them, big Del always has the money in front of him with a huge grin on his face surrounded by the rest of the lads looking like their worlds have ended. Our summer signing Ricky Ravenhill deserves a special mention as he is probably the worst player and always seems to be an unhappy man after a card school session.
Two Premier League sharks clash this weekend as Chelsea take on Liverpool in a mouth-watering game. Hopefully I can break my duck this week and actually get a prediction correct for a change, so here goes. My bets for this week are that the half-time score in the Chelsea v Liverpool game will be 0-0 at around [2.5] and that Chelsea will win the match at [2.18].
