Week 5 of the NFL presents a tough set of fixtures but our man Bart Barden returns with his three recommended bets from the weekend games...
"The Bears offense is nothing to write home about, but should be serviceable enough to keep this close and cover the +4.5 handicap."
We were away last week so there's no selections for me to review, but we did much better in Week 3.
Denver managed to continue their defensive dominance and the Dalton wagon broke down at the end of the game, and the Browns hung close and lost a heartbreaker in overtime. Let's keep it going into Week 5. A much more balanced set of matches present some harder value selections so proceed with caution this week.
Chicago at Indianapolis
3pts Bears +4.5 pts to Win @ 2.0421/20
Andrew Luck is a great quarterback but he's missing weapons and starting games too slow. They also can't protect him and the Bears have a sneaky pass rush that should be able to pressure him into a few mistakes. The Bears offense is nothing to write home about, but should be serviceable enough to keep this close and cover the +4.5 handicap.
Cincinnati @ Dallas
2 pts Back Cinci to Win @ 1.875/6
I have been down on Cinci all year but people think the Cowboys are riding high and are overvalued here. The haven't faced a defense that can pressure the QB and stop the run as the Bengals can and this week Dak Prescott will get a bit of rookie induction to the NFL. Also, don't forget that this receiving corps are sub-par without Des Bryant, who does not expect to play.
New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers
1pts Back Over 48pts at 2.021/1
Giants' offense will find a way to bounce back, Green Bay can score points at home but their defense is very suspect to long pass plays. I expect a potential defensive score by the Packers D, but also allowing OBJ to score at least two touchdowns. Tons of points to be had here.
