NFL Week 1 Tips: Back Indy to cover the handicap @ Detroit

The NFL is back, and so too is our man Bart Barden who returns to resume his weekly tipping stint, recommending three wagers for you to consider from the opening round of fixtures...

"Detroit will run some no-huddle and try to match the offense blow for blow, so I would expect a high scoring game, but the defensive play for Indy should be crisp enough to make the plays to push a touchdown plus margin of victory."

1pt Indy -3.5 pts @ 2.1211/10

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets

2pts Back Jets to Win @ 2.226/5

There are a few close games this week and I don't like betting on handicap markets that are less than 2 this early in the season. The Bengals are missing a few weapons on offense and Andy Dalton isn't the biggest field stretching quarterback to begin with. Look for Cin to run the ball and use quick throws to try to get him in rhythm, but this will end up being a game of FG for Cin versus TD for the Jets. The Jets on the other hand have amassed a few more weapons, and as long as the Mega Beard from Harvard (Fitzpatrick) comes prepared, he will get the fans chanting J-E-T-S all day long.

Detroit @ Indianapolis
Sunday, 21:25

1pt Indy -3.5 pts @ 2.1211/10

Given the lack of data this season, this pick is as much of a revenge play than a technical one. I believe this will be a statement game for Indy and Mr. Luck to get back on the AFC contender map after an injury plagued campaign in 2016. He has all his weapons on offense back, with a much improved Donte Moncrief to give *grief* to the Lions secondary. Playing at home should be all the motivation they need to cover the 3.5 handicap.

Detroit will run some no-huddle and try to match the offense blow for blow, so I would expect a high scoring game, but the defensive play for Indy should be crisp enough to make the plays to push a touchdown plus margin of victory.

3pts Back Antonio Brown Under 30.5 Fantasy Points @ 1.855/6

There are a lot of question markets about how the Steelers offense will operate this year. With some key missing pieces in H Miller and L Bell, the natural thought is that all the targets will be left for Antonio Brown. That is the logical thinking but the projections are priced to perfection. 30.5 fantasy points means at least 100 yards and a Touchdown, if one of these things does not happen the total will be almost impossible to come by. This is just beginning of the year overpricing and bet the under with confidence.
